Had an absolute stinker at Forest (although not alone in that obvs). Literally every attack that arrived at him, ended with him. But you can see there's a player there, a rough diamond. He never lacks in effort or attitude.

Looking forward to seeing him develop. He'll only get better.
I thought he was our best player against Forest. (The bar undoubtedly was low.)

Some way from the finished article, but really promising.

Edit - TBH Rutter aside I haven’t been that impressed with any of our summer signings, all are promising, but all have lots of learning and room for improvement, just think that’s where Minteh is.

I don't think he got past his opposite number once, or delivered anything that came close to producing something. Zero end product, he played like Adama Traore blindfolded.

Fabs brainfart last week was the primary reason we got dry-humped though. Minteh does always put a shift in.

Your point is valid but very few of our new signings have had a decent run of games. This is affecting our whole season with the team being chopped and changed every week as a few players are always ruled out.

Only Rutter and perhaps Minteh have had decent game time.

Both Wieffer and Kadıoğlu had started to look quite decent before they got injured but it took bith a while to get up to speed. Gruda and O’Riley have not had the consistency of selection to show much. I think both need a run of 10 games or so to find their EPL feet. I don’t see either getting that unfortunately as the centre midfield and right wing appear to be our most competitive spots.

Seems odd. I was sure Bloom and Barber's strategy was to buy proven Premier League players that were the complete finished article. Same with Coaches. Maybe their algorithm needs tweaking?

Despite the sarcasm (which is a shame, as I like your posts), I get your point, but would you not concede the outlay was extremely significant and perhaps even with good prospects you would anticipate a bit more of a return?

I clearly would. @Hugo Rune is right re injuries, but all are just very promising.

Agree with your post. As our league season is likely already over as mid table mediocrity id like to see the same team (or a maximum or 1 or 2 enforced changes) picked week in, week out to see what consistency we can build and really learn about the players

It was a bit of a low blow, I'm sorry. In my defence it is early on a Monday morning.

But I don't agree I would have expected more of a return yet, no. We are only halfway through the season- Chelsea spent over a BILLION POUNDS on transfers a couple of years ago and they've only this season started to look half decent, and even then they are inconsistent.

This season was always going to be a transitional season, and I genuinely don't think anybody can judge whether that outlay was well-spent until the end of next season at the earliest. Look at Baleba- he looks superb this season, but is still inconsistent, and I don't personally think is ready for a big move yet. Last season he was brilliant in patches, but all over the place in others. That's what happens when you buy potential, and that is what we have done with virtually all our new signings. They are always going to be inconsistent and blow hot and cold until they get to the point where they are the finished article like MacAllister and Caicedo, and that's when we sell them for big money. If all these signing clicked and were consistently brilliant then we would make the Champions League and probably win a trophy, but that simply isn't going to happen. A club our size can only compete by having promising players that can go on to be world-beaters, but aren't quite yet.

Anyone expecting us to ever have a team of brilliant, consistent Premier League players at any one time is going to be disappointed, I'm afraid.

I'm not ready to settle for mid table mediocrity when we're 3 points off Europe.

Good post.
I would argue that I saw more in those you mentioned and Baleba in year 1, than some of the signings.
Obviously, injuries are playing a part, but whilst I think Rutter has been great and immediately you’d say “yes” money back and then some, I couldn’t confidently say that about the others. (Gomez looks good though)
Ferdi looked great prior to the injury. Wieffer after a very slow start was great at Leicester and then West Ham but need to see more.
I think end of next season is too long for this level of outlay, but your point about too early at this moment is probably right…..

Rome wasn’t built in a day! I always believed that it would take a season for Fabian Hurzeler and the new players to establish themselves in the fire pit of the Premier League. So far, not too bad. Some players are adapting quicker than others. I truly believe that in time we will have a team that fulfills that promise - patience is the watch word.

No and I’m not disputing that, as per my previous point, given the outlay I anticipated that some of the signings would be further ahead on the curve, that’s all. 😃

None of these players had played in the Premier League before...

Yasin Ayari
Georginio Rutter
Yankuba Minteh
Matt O'Riley
Mats Wieffer
Ferdi Kadioglu
Brajan Gruda
(Diego Gomez and Eiran Cashin)

...so it simply is going to take time to adjust to the intensity of the Premier League.

Aside from that, we have a manager in his first season both in English football and the Premier League.

And, for the hat trick, we have moved from a head coach who trained at a very low intensity to one who works at high intensity.

You can't have all that and not go through a period of adjustment that will see some inconsistency in performances and results.

Georgi had, actually, 11 appearances in the season Leeds were relegated.

Why is it too long? How many players that have never played in the Premier League before come good in their first season? Some, but not many, even ones that go on to be top players. Even Ronaldo struggled a bit initially! Ali Mac took 3 seasons to really get going. I think Kadioglu would have been a hit this season if he hadn't have got injured. But the vast majority are always going to take a season or two.

It's very rare we sign a young player that is an instant hit at this level. Mitoma was, but has he really pushed on from there? I don't think so, he wouldn't be with us anymore if he had. 1-2 full seasons is a reasonable amount of time to make a judgement on a young signing. And when you have 5 or 6 of them in the same team? Even longer.
