Mainly only to the Bletchley part. It has roads called V6 rather than sensible names and seems to have been planned by someone with an aversion to corners. Odd place.

My office was "Moved" there back in June, and believe me it is a Shit Hole. I have ever since tried to find an excuse to work somewhere different as possible. In 2 months I have only been their 9 times - Not bad for a job located in MK Dump.
I live down the road from MK, so hopefully I'll be able to give you a bit more than people saying "it's a shithole" after going through Bletchley for 30 seconds.
It's a very strange place, but it certainly does have things going for it: The shopping centre, The Centre:MK, is absolutely MASSIVE and has loads of good stuff there. Xscape just over the road from the centre is a good laugh as well, loads of shops, bars, restaurants, a cinema, a skydiving simulator tunnel thing and an indoor ski centre, plus a new club called Wonderland or Wonderworld, I can't remember, where Oceana used to be. Plus it's 50 minutes on the train to London and an hour or so up to Manchester, so it's easy to get out if you want to.
The place is a bit grey and Americanised (loads of the roads are called "boulevard" which i find annoying) and everything is quite spread out (the taxis will take you anywhere in MK for £3 anyway), but it's what you make of it. It's certainly not your conventional big town but that's what makes it interesting.

Fair enough. Is this based on your comparisons to Brighton or is MK pretty much a dump no matter where you're from?
I recently moved to Gloucester which isn't all that, so I'm wondering what MK is like compared to here.

That's given me a bit more of a positive feeling. I've read that the city is built by 'grids' which I imagine can be strange at first and I've also heard good reviews about the Xscape(?) and ice rink!mlg57

I've lived in MK since 1985 (move from Woodingdean) and have enjoyed it very much. Most of MK is set on the grid road system and between the grids are various estates. The estates I have lived on and most I have visited are set out very neatly with wide roads nicely decorated with trees and shrubs. The houses are of various sizes but are all well set back from the roads with good gardens. The shopping centre is excellent as are the Xscape building (ski slope, bowling alley, restaurants and cinema) and Theatre which is rated one of the best in the country. Sports wise you have MK Dons ( I won't go there) and MK Lightning (ice hockey team which has done pretty well and plays good hockey). The things I love the most though are, the canal running through the city, Willen lake (one of three excellent lakes in the city), the redways (a system of cycle routes throughout the city) which i use all the time and the closeness to the countryside, 10 minutes in any direction and you are in lovely countryside. My father has lived just outside MK for nearly 30 years and have spent much of my adult life there. MK itself is pretty much a shopping centre and as a shopping centre/entertainment hub ,its great. The whole point of MK was a centre with a green outside hub i.e. you kept all the little villages for where most people would live (except awful Bletchley, which was there before MK). So if you live to the plan , you live in the ring of villages outside and they are GORGEOUS!
Having said all of this the plan has changed and there is now housing inside MK which I would avoid. If you live in the ring of villages like Woburn Sands, Aspley Guise, Bow Brickhill etc and use MK for its services its one of the better places to live.
