I was walking past the Socialist Party Office in Clapham at 3pm. An open lecture was due to take place at er 3pm. The Lecturer was there behind a desk with a jug of water and stuff laid out at the rows of desks for attendees who numbered ……………….. nil. Shirly Clapham has more 'socialists' than that!

Dennis Skinner was indesposed I suspect

That's not the Socialist Party: that's The Socialist Party of Great Britain (The Socialist Party for short). The headquarters of the Socialist Party is in Hackney (not the lack of definitive article). The Socialist Party does indeed have only a handful of members, the Socialist Party has a lot, lot more.

I'm not sure where the Popular Front for the Liberation of Great Britain are based

I know that office. Can you imagine how disappointed you'd be if you were the lecturer. Build yourself up to make the big statement, only to find out that no one is listening.

I get used to it. Anyway, the point is, this anecdote illustrates why Labour have swung to the middle ground.

I know someone close to Johnson and yes, apparently he really is happy doing what he is doing. To be fair to him its a pressured cooker environment. It seems to me most PMs visibly age beyond their years whn in office

I reckon he will change his mind in 5 years time.

If anyone here hasn't read his first book they should do so soon. He's a good person, who belies the claim that all politicians are insincere.

Grant Shapps took a bit of a beating on tonight's Newsnight from the usually mild mannered Evan Davis:

I was disappointed when Davis got the Newsnight job preferring the quietly vicious Eddie Mair, but he did really well here. By the end of the interview Davis seemed to be showing utter contempt for Michael Green/Sebastian Fox/Grant Shapps who is looking like he could become a bit of a liability, unable to smug his way past his shady business past.

Davis still doesn't hold a candle to Michael Crick though:
