When I lived back in the homeland, nearly all my friend's Nan's lived in Mile Oak(mine still does), and they all owned a Jack Russell, hence my Stereotypical view of the place.

blimey The Sticks has its own thread! I often venture north of the border to visit friends & godson, gets cold though, have to scrape the ice off the car when I leave but its lovely coming back over into warmer Southwick then the promised land of Shoreham

Does anyone know the origin of the name Mile Oak?

I've heard 2 stories:

1. Named after a large Oak tree that stood roughly 1 Mile from Portslade (old) Village.

2. Some sort of mile long race that used to be run along what became Mile Oak Road.
