Sad news. As a talksport listener for many years he will be dearly missed. Anyone remember those programmes they did, a few christmasses ago called clash of the titains? It was him, James whale, Mike Parry and someone else who I cant remember, shows like that were when he was at his prime. I never religiously listened to his show, but I used to occasionally catch his friday night show. Top listening.

RIP Mike.

They are doing another Clash of the Titans this year, Mike Dickin was due to be a part of it, along with Whale, Parry and John Gaunt.

This is terrible news. I listened to him for years on LBC and latterly on Talksport.

He was angry with the same things that make me angry and wasn't afraid to say so. The only thing that wasn't in question was his health.

This news has ruined my day and ruined my week.

Bollocks.

This is very sad news.

He was a brilliant broadcaster who didn't pull any punches and didn't across as an arrogant wanker, unlike some of his peers (Jon Gaunt, who does the morning show on TalkSport is a PRIME example of this).

He will be sadly missed

I believe he was the first broadcaster to break the news that Princess Di had died. The Press association in common with all media had been told of her death by Robin Cook who was in malaysia but had embargoed it until an official announcement by Buckingham palace.

However the Press Association ran it early and Mike Dickin was broadcasting and saw it on the wires and announced it.

At the time the BBC were aware but couldn't say anything. If you ever see press coverage of the half hour leading up to the official announcement you will see the BBC heavily alluding to bad news without actually saying so.

Very sad when a true talent dies. Particularly so close to Christmas.

Indeed he was. He was also on air as the story of the shootings in the school at Dunblane was breaking. Yes, he was opinionated, yes he could be an argumentative, grumpy old man, but that was just him doing the job he was employed to do. At the end of it all, he was a superb broadcaster.

The James Whale show tonight is dedicated to him, and will feature many clips of the fella, and they will have guests on who knew and worked with him over the years.
