Midfielders who should have played more for their country.

How many times did he single handedly save Southampton from relegation?

Totally agree with everything you have said BUzzer. They should have built a team round Le Tiss.

Why?

I think Nolan of Bolton should have been given a chance. He probably would have done if he'd played for a BIG club!

Players like Frank Worthington, Tony Currie, Matt Le Tissier, Alan Hudson and the like, had a certain genius quality.

They will never bust a gut or tackle back but they have match winning qualities. In any team you need a variety of players to fullfill different roles. You would expect, in an International side, that there are those players to do the work and thus allow the flair players to shine.

All those mentioned abouve should have had teams built around them.

Le Tiss always refuted the "no ambition" charge. He said he was ambititious - just that he wanted to win with the club he loved. A trait to be admired not dissed, in my eyes.

He played week in and week out in the Premiership - how's that not being tested? Quite simply - he was flair to the power of infinity when England managers put more store by utilitarian work horses (Geoff Thomas, Carlto Palmer?) - even Gascoigne suffered under that rule. Remember when Graham Taylor wouldn't play Gazza against Ireland as he said that Gazza's style didn't suit England.

FFS - we should have built sides around the likes of Hoddle, Gazza and Le Tiss.

Totally agree with your sentiments, however I can't help but think his international career would have been much better had he played for a big team.

Alan Hudson - another great name.

Laurie Cunningham was another that I used to admire (RIP Laurie)

How soon is now?
Just watched the le Tiss you tube video and agreed, he scored some great goals. but he struck me as a player that, if he wasn't interested could be anonymous for weeks at a time.

As for Nolan, agreed. If he was at a bigger club he may have more chances, but as I recall he's never even been in an England squad - thats poor decision making by both McKnobhead and Erics mum

Hoddle could have been our Platini but we didn't exactly have progressive managers at the time.
