Now with Wilkins having played in midfield, its obvious some fans know more about it than him. ???

Wouldn't have to KNOW much to realize we've needed strengthening in that department for years.

If ANY average everyday MUG can see that, does it mean that there aren't any worthy midfielders available out there?

Otherwise, in answer to your statement, the answer would have to be YES.

can i say here managers come and managers go but some things never change

midfield - we haven't really had apart from currie a really creative midfielder since the minton days.oatway, hammond, carpenter and rogers have featured more often than not since then and they are very similar in style.so it's no good getting on deano's back cos he can't see it when adams, taylor, hinch, coppell and mcghee have gone for similar midfielders.

mayo - plenty slate him me included but how many managers have continued to pick him ? even when they do leave him out they soon recall him ! a mystery to me but they obviously see something in him i don't which is why they are paid to do the job and i'm not

fdm - why do managers continue to look for other keepers when we have a perfectly good 1 in michel? now im not a michel is god person like many on here but i think u'd struggle to find a better shot stopper.he lets himself down with his distribution and is prone to the odd mistake but all in all he is a decent keeper.Think we saw both sides of that last night but managers just don't seem to see this ! coppell and mcghee both made it obvious they prefered ben macghee certainaly showed more faith in the irish 1.now wilkins has made it obvious by continuing to pick flinders and now leaving the number 1 shirt open that he hasn't much faith in michel either.

FFS !

START with the midfield, then build the team around it.
(yes, a concept that no manager ever needs to consider, fans know nothing about such subtle footballing intricacies)

According to Cloughie you started with the goalkeeper and the defence. I'd go along with that starting with the midfield is well...just wrong

We are still looking, we're not exactly made of money.

Zamora didn't play in midfield and we built a team around him

We didn't. He just stood out as the fulcrum of team play because he had loads of talent. Something not seen much of in a while. Oh yeah, I'm sure it became a constant order to give him the ball as much as possible.

That BHA have not been focusing on the middle of the team is obvious. Looking for one now? Really? Oh well then, that's great, no need to WORRY then! :nono:
I'm sure we have been thinking of eating vegetables, but until we find good ones we'll buy f***ing CHOCOLATES! :thud:

Clough started with a keeper did he? Well, since we have a keeper, and forwards, and defenders...... where are the good midfielders? Can't we REMEMBER where we put them LAST? :bla:

We really don't need a midfield do we, I mean, we can score a goal, let in two, and everyone will be pleased they saw some goals, end to end stuff. Job done, all go home happy. :bigwave: :yahoo:

All you need is a goalkeeper who can stop shots, A defender who can tackle, A midfielder who can pass and a striker who can get in the right place at the right time. I think we'll do ok this season.

Clough and Shankly, two of the greatest EVER managers, both talked about the spine of the team.

A decent keeper, especially a good shot stopper, two solid centre halves, often an older guy with good posititional sense and experience and a younger guy (unintended pun!) with footballing skill who can work roud him, and an experienced goalscorer, again with a younger partner.

Seems to me we aren't a million miles from there

I dont remember Wilkins playing anywhere in a Brighton team never mind midfield. And yes I do rememember the goal at Ipswich (as obviously the last 76 chairmen, boards and cleaners do; which explains why he hasnt been told to sling his hook like every other hangover at the club from the 80s has).

Finding it hard to get worked up about the midfield (tho common sense tells me I SHOULD at this stage in the pre-season). Just inordinately pleased to finally have a player who knows where the damn eighteen yard box is, and seems quite happy to be in there without having to have it drummed into him week after week. All hail Nicky Forster

We DO need to stengthen in midfield, and yet, for some strange reason, we seem to be still after another keeper... we really could challenge for the playoffs or better if we made the right midfield signings... as for the keeper, if the FDM (or Sullivan, for that matter, as has just happened) gets injured when the season is up and running, then get in a loan...
