Yes. But isn't this another frustrating one, big stadium, smaller gates than ours, must be paying good wages. So how can they afford it and where does FFP come in?

If they fail, whilst Gibson wouldn't allow them to go bankrupt, they can't be satisfying FFP and surely an embargo would be placed - wouldn't it?

They can't, it doesn't.

Yes it would. But the embargo is fairly toothless (I seem to remember Watford had one, what happened to them?) and if they get promoted this year it won't apply to them and they won't have to pay a fine either.

As for the embargo being toothless then some clubs including Albion would probably like it to be stronger but Forest, Blackburn and Leeds transfer activity this window has been severely curtailed as a result of breaching FFP.

Really? Leeds are about to complete their seventh signing which will take their summer spending to about £5m. Haven't looked at Blackburn or Forest but if Leeds is anything to go by then FFP is pointless.

Exactly, there is no way in the world their income can exceed what they are spending, and to be honest I didn't realise Gibson was so wealthy he can afford to subsidise them by so much.

From 2015/16 FFP losses are relaxed so clubs can lose £13 million a season and still remain within the rules.

Boro spent years getting their books in order and shipping out all the high wage earners signed by Strachan.

They then had a thoroughly decent manager in Mowbray who got them punching above their weight as they started strong then ran out of steam with quite a young side with one or two experienced heads like that sicknote spurs defender who played for Real Madrid.

Now they can go large after the penny pinching. Maybe after season 2 of penny pinching (this year and last year) we can do it too. Good luck to them actually.

Can't be all that bad, they can afford to turn down bids left right and center for their players.

Glad someone called this out that is simply a ridiculous amount of money for Rhodes. You could get 3-4 top players at this level for that amount of money.

His average is a goal every two games.With the team Brough are amassing Rhodes should be on for 35 goals plus this season.Agree 14 million is obscene,but if it leads to Premiership riches in 9 months time then it might look like money well spent. No guarantees of course but an amusing sideshow for the rest of us if they don't make it up.

How you defining that ? A reduction in the football budget (wages and fees spent by the club) in 14/15 compared to 12/13 ? or 13/14 ? ie: since Poyet's season.
The accounts and public statements by the club don't back that up.

Perhaps a change in comparison to the other 23 clubs in the division (ie: Albion continue to have a top 10 budget despite other teams with parachute payments etc)
The published accounts from other teams say otherwise.

If Jordan Rhodes was really worth 14m and was the difference between promotion or not, then you'd have to ask why Blackburn have spent the last 3 seasons in the Championship without even threatening the play offs.
