It was a miracle we even had the ball boys turning up. Calling Withdean a football stadium was a massive misconception. Portacabin toilets alongside the constant drip of the trees above made it feel more like a SAS training session than a football stadium.
I remember when we beat Milwall (3-0 i think) who were top of the league. It completely tipped it down. I remember everyone trying to squeeze into the toilets at halftime for some shelter and warmth. You could see the fun really had been took out of the win due to the weather completely drenching all the fans.

Looking back, we did remarkably well to even bring 2,000 fans in let alone 5 to 7,000.

Don't know what you mean. I used to love my four hour drive home soaked to the bone.

Been having a look on the Boro forum on and off this season and must say they're not to keen on giving out any praise for our achievements. Recently I've seen comments like "They haven't had any injuries to deal with" and "They haven't played any decent teams yet", and most bizarrely of all "They always seem to be playing at home!"

Anyway I thought I'd have a look at what they've been saying today. It's quite a contrast to the "Anyone who finishes above Boro will be promoted" sentiment that seems to be the general consesus on here.

I'm a Boro fan myself and to be honest you're looking at the wrong forum mate. We have three of them and the Oneboro forum is the most low-brow of the lot with the highest proportion of idiots. The general conclusion on there seems to be that you are where you are on merit; no one has a flukey 19 games. Time will tell whether you can keep it up. The biggest threat to you not doing so will be how you deal with injuries and how many you get; they shafted both us and moreso Derby last season, not surprisingly Bournemouth were pretty fortunate in this regard last season though this season it seems to be the reverse for them. To put it in perspective we currently have 3 players who would have been first teamers out from before the season started, we had Stuani who is a major player in our side out for almost two months and then the usual tweaks that make players miss a game or two. It did for us last season, Bamford's being the biggest blow, which is a big reason we've invested so heavily, for example around 8 million being spent between Kike, Forshaw and De Pena, three players who don't often even make the first team, so that when the inevitable injuries kick in we have bodies of almost the same quality who can jump in and replace them.

Assuming your injury count is average for the season almost all Boro fans feel that you will make the playoffs at the very least, a lot saying you'd probably finish around 5th. However most also say that should you still sit top and more importantly remain unbeaten after the next 3 games, arguably your hardest sequence of 3 since the season started, then you're probably there for the long haul and are a serious threat for the autos come season end.

The question is....CAN YOU KEEP UP?
Our squad is a lot better than others think and many of our games we should have hit 3/4/5 goals.Not been outplayed by anyone this season.
Just because you and Derby have been overspending it doesn't mean it's about you two...we can spend in Jan if needed and will have 4 great players back from injury come Jan/Feb

Pretty honest review but I'd say we've had and still are having major long term injuries which have left the manager with big headaches. However, we still remain unbeaten despite of this but you can be sure we will spend big come January and already have done buying arguably the best player currently playing in Ireland. I do agree though with your comment. The next 3 games could be season defining for us.

They certainly do. Most of our fans thought December was a crunch month for us, with our games in succession reading Everton, Ipswich, Brum, Burnley then you guys. Most of our fans will be happy with still being in the pack come xmas as in the first half of the season we play 6 of the top ten away. In the second half we play 3 of them away.

Nice to hear some sense, thanks for taking the trouble. We're missing 4 first choice first teamers long term (Bong, Baldock, Rosenior, Lua Lua) but those that have stepped up, plus a couple of loan additions, mean we're still doing ok. Commitment and team spirit is nothing short of sensational, it really is. We've drawn games we should have won, scraped through games we won but might have drawn but as you say 19 games unbeaten isn't a fluke. If we were better up front we'd possibly be 8-10 points clear by now. Can we maintain it ? God only knows, but we aren't half enjoying the ride. Dec and Jan will be big months, both in terms of results, transfers, and, for us, a large % of our first choice players returning.

I like Boro. Met some quality Boro fans who come down last season. I have wanted them to go up for a while now. Would happily see both Us and Boro go up this season.

All teams think we will drop off only time will tell. But people thought Burnley and Bournemouth would fall away in previous seasons they didnt. Lets hope we can keep going.

The last time we were involved in a promotion fight from the second tier with 1st and 2nd just needing a point each, is one of my very worst football memories. Worse than Notts County
