Head-to-head
• Tony Mowbray celebrated his 100th match in charge of Middlesbrough with a 1-0 win over Brighton in the reverse fixture six months ago, courtesy of a deflected first-half strike from Dutchman Marvin Emnes, which took Boro's unbeaten sequence against the Seagulls to 10 games in league and cup.
• It's 23 years since Brighton last beat Middlesbrough, and 28 years since they last registered an away league victory over them.
• A total of 98 goals have been featured in league games between these clubs, nine of which were scored by Middlesbrough without reply in their season opener at Ayresome Park in August 1958, which remains Boro's widest margin of victory in a league game.
Middlesbrough
• Middlesbrough's astonishing downward spiral since the turn of the year shows no signs of abating. They have lost 12 of 16 matches and have won just two, collecting eight points out of 48.
• The Teesside club have picked up only one point from the last six games, in which just three goals have been scored.
• Nevertheless Mowbray's men still boast the longest goal-scorers list in the Championship of 20 different players.
Brighton
• Brighton are seven points superior to Middlesbrough and still well in contention for an end-of-season play-off spot. They have finished level in their last three games and are the Championship's draw specialists with 17 stalemates, while their opponents have the fewest in the division (four).
• This is Brighton's 1,900th away fixture in league football.
• They have drawn 99 away matches at second league level, and should this match finish all-square, it would take their all-time total of second tier points to 1,000.

State on bbc don't bode well for today

It's 23 years since Brighton last beat Middlesbrough, and 28 years since they last registered an away league victory over them.

Stats are there to be broken. Come 5 o'clock this evening and it'll be five minutes since we last beat them.

Both clubs have big injury doubts so until we know who's lining up it's a tough one to call. Our record against Boro is shocking but this is a unique match and I don't think the record will count for much. At any other stage of the season a point would be a great result but get all three and we put huge pressure on the teams around us.

KLL tends to play well in big matches and Vicente is getting fitter. Bridge and Upson have the experience too. We might nick this if the likes of Emnes or Woodgate are missing.
