“Read your bible”
That’s what my sister says if the subject of Palestine comes up.
“The Jews were peaceful nomadic tribe who decided one day to stop being nomadic.”
😂
Even in the Bible scripture tells of the Jewish Diaspora born from persecution and marginalisation not from a desire to be homeless - the whole ‘journey’ of the tribes of Israel was described as looking for a homeland and opportunity to express a cultural and religious identity which many centuries later, they thought they’d found in Europe.

Likewise, the modern diaspora and mass migration of European Jews to the then British controlled Palestine territories in the late 30s and 40s largely arose from growing anti-semitic persecution in Europe culminating in the Holocaust.

The Jews were given a State bang smack in the middle of Arab nations which was very provocative and consequently leading to years of insecurity and instability of its borders. The Palestinians Territories were partitioned but the Palestinians with no State of their own ended up resisting what they saw as an affirmation of further occupation so the Eastern quarter of Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and West Bank became the focus of years of subsequent conflict.

I’m Jewish and recognise the ‘victimisation’ mentality inextricably linked with the modern cultural identity of what it means to be Jewish but conversely will be the first Jewish person to say that the Palestinian people have repeatedly been sold down the river by Western democracies and the very Westernised UN - however, I have relatives that are pretty much entrenched into a Zionist viewpoint.

Do not for one minute ignore the fact either that Russian and Iranian backed interests are very likely intentionally destabilising the regions of both the Middle East and Central Europe (reigniting conflict too in Kosovo) which is linked to their interests in Ukraine…

This full out resurgence of the Palestinian/Israeli Conflict is not happening in a political vacuum -The World is sitting on a tinderbox …

Thanks for posting this. It explains the complexity of the situation and as others have said the horrendous potential

You sound like a terrorist sympathiser
One person's terrorist is another person's freedom fighter. All Israel needs to do is give back stolen land. People think our government is right wing - Israel's government is almost as far as you can get right - ironic really.

Massive air strikes and ground attacks inside Israel by Hamas and other terrorist groups.
Israel declares star of war. Hamas terrorists roaming streets of southern Israel shooting anyone they see.
Huge geopolitical/economic impacts.
Iran potentially sponsoring with head of Iran sending anti-Jewish messages in recent days.
Calm down. This has happened a thousand times in my lifetime alone. It’s simply the latest flair up in a never ending, and never will, struggle as old as mankind itself.

Not exactly an answer. I always feel it would be nice to agree on some basic facts before we really get stuck into an argument.
It is possible to defend Israel while at least recognizing the bare facts that hundreds of thousands were displaced and many thousands murdered in the process. To suggest otherwise while perhaps not being in there same ballpark as Holocaust denial is at least in the parking structure of offensively wrong takes on history.
It wasn’t meant to be an answer, just some historical background.

Looks like a bit more than the lastest flare up from where I am sitting.

It really isn’t though in the long history of. It’s nothing compared to eg neighbouring states attacking in alliance with hundreds of thousands of troops, aircraft and tanks. Which has happened several times before but isn’t happening now.

I saw a photo of what looked like a young black woman half naked with her leg snapped who was dead on one of their trucks and they were celebrating like they killed a IDF general or something. Cowardly behaviour.

The sad thing is you just know there is going to be innocent Arab victims killed by Israel who are either caught in the crossfire or even targeted because of these militant cowardly rat's actions.

Another ignorant stupid comment . Israel was mandated by the UN and was then attacked by its neighbours within days . It fought a war it had to win to avoid it being destroyed and kept the land it won for security reasons .
No it wasn't. It was created by the British and the US carving up Palestine after the second world war. Arabs living there at the time had no choice as their lands were carved up.

Stolen land ! It was land originally in Syria . Obviously Israel are not going to give it back Firstly they were the ones attacked and secondly they have to keep a close eye on it for security purposes. If Palestinians had planes etc they would be all over Israel trying to destroy it. Are you purposefully making ridiculous comments ..

Yes Bibi is quite wing but no sensible govt would hand strategic land back to a people governed by terrorises groups . It’s laughable you think that’s the answer.

As an aside there's an excellent documentary up on Prime at the moment about journalist Robert Fisk's life and career in the Middle East, 'This is not a movie'.

Not just about Palestine although that obviously does feature.

Watched it twice in the last week and recommend it.

Words of warning ... Some very upsetting scenes and a U2 song over the end credits.

And your sympathy for Hamas also extends to Al Qaeda ? maybe the oppressed People of Ireland who lost part of their lands, "rising up" as the IRA to bomb England was understandable.

Of course im referring to the non violent leaders like Gerry Adams.
Al Qaed have not state to protect. The Irish on the other did and do. The British were complete murderous wankers in Ireland and I have every sympathy with the IRA's aims but not their means.

His book called civilisation is about as thorough a single volume read on the Middle East complexities as you can get. Over a 1000 pages, small font too!

Not forgetting many of ‘the British’ establishment were Irish and many Irish of all demographics supported, and still do, being part of the UK.
