Middle class, working class. How do YOU define the two?

I've always been interested in this.

Regardless of what some say the class system still exists. And I'm not asking whether people think they're one group or another (but please feel free to tell)..more how you personally define different class groups.

What are the essential traits of the working class? And what accoutrements does one need to join the middle-classes these days?

What class for example is Wayne Rooney? What about the penniless Lord?

Middle class is having the pattern of your curtains facing inwards, working class is having the pattern facing outwards ( or it wasin the 50's and 60's)

Working class are easily identifiable by scruffy clothing, poor grasp of the English language and are on the dole.

Middle class can be seen reading copies of The Daily Mail, owning cats and attending swingers parties.

The working classes always have sky tv whether they can afford it or not where as middle classes listen to radio four or watch exclusively BBC channels?

Working class kids always have the latest brand name clothing, again whether they can afford it or not where as the middle class kids where gap/h&m/Uniqlo?

I’m not making sweeping generalisations at all here!

Working class will generally have a flat Screen TV the size of an olympic scale swimming pool in a living room no bigger than swimming pool locker. The floor in front of this tv will be littered with shoplifted PS3 games and empty packets of Wotsits.

Someone once told me the difference between working and middle class was if you had more than three types of pasta in your food cupboard when you were growing up then you had a middle class upbringing even if your mum and dad earn't f*** all. This was in the 80's btw. By this reckoning Kate Winslet would definitely be middle class, despite her parents earning very little when she was growing up.
