Don't the young players we tend to loan overseas never come back into the first team ? Much more like we expect to get rid of him I think

I like the look of Karbownik based on the small amount we've seen so far. But a loan - and playing against some decent sides in the CL - will be good as long as he's getting game time. I think there's something about him, so I really hope we aren't planning to sell him.

However, as others have said, there is serious competition for places in our side now. It's harder for our own youth players to get game time and harder for players we buy to force their way in. It's all good for our potnetial to thrive as a club, but the harsh reality of football at the very top.

Well not at RWB there isn't. We currently have midfielders covering there.

And let's be honest, if Tariq stays fit and in form, he will be signing for a CL club for megabucks in two seasons' time.

Developing a prospect to bring into that position would appear to be our model.
If it isn't why the **** aren't we looking to sell Roberts/Richards/Caceido . Positions where there is already too much competition.

I think the prospects model is a numbers game. We bring in lots of very talented young footballers in the hope that a few of them will go on to be valuable players that we either bring into the squad and/or sell for a profit - and if not, then they get released or sold at a small profit if we can. That necessarily means that there will be a LOT of young players that have what appears to be huge potential that we have to let go (see Chelsea's model).

That's the point I was making rather clumsily - we will see lots of players like Karbo being released or load/options to buy, because we have had a look and they didn't make the grade.

Maybe that's the problem? Didn't we all think when he signed that we had signed a LWB?

I suspect our recruitment team knew full well that he could play on either side and in midfield.
Most recent tweets seem to imply it's a loan deal only, so I'm a little less disappointed, than I was.

I agree with the point, but so far Karbo has looked pretty good, but in need of strengthening up( something we often see and the club manage very well)
I don't see why he makes the starting line up on Tuesday if the club don't think he has a future with us.

Hopefully this is a loan only deal and part of his development.
If he gets some CL experience, then all power to him.

Good move for everyone. He is miles off atm so it’s win win really, and a decent level to be playing at.

Naylor has spoken.

Other sources claiming Olympiakos have requested a loan to buy.
It doesn't sound like we see it as anything other than a loan.

I believe Leeds requested the same for Ben White.

Too soon? Check under 'Kacper Lopata' and see how soon we can act (and there are others like that).

Never heard of him so I had to google. I'm not sure he's in quite the same boat as Karbownik who we spent several million on and is going to Olympiakos rather than Whitehawk but I get your point. It's a ruthless business.

I'd be astonished if it was a loan to buy. He's been with us less than a year. It seems way too soon to cut our losses.

I very much doubt we will agree to a loan to buy, that's possibly why the deal is a little way off at the moment according to Naylor. I imagine they are pushing for the option to buy as most clubs loaning a player would try to get and we've said no, the same as we did with White and Leeds.

Loan to buy is a bit daft in any situation where you think a player has potential.
If he is POTS there, and becomes a Poland regular, then by next summer he is a) in a much better postion to fight for a first team place here and b) worth way more than Olympiakos would be asking to pay now.

IF he is going to Olympiakos on lian, and IF it's a loan to buy, I'd bet a pretty hefty sell-om clause would be included (or even a buy-back clause).
