After he finished playing Michael had a successful career on TV; he was the Spanish TV equivalent of Desmond Lynam.

He was also a Director of Cadiz CF and I met him at a game when I was a season ticket holder there some years ago.

I'm not sure if he is still with the club but I have sent a copy of this thread to a friend of mine who is a Director with a request that he passes this thread on to Michael so he can see all the great messages we have all left and so he knows how well he is remembered by those of us lucky enough to have seen him play.

Get well soon Michael, it would be great to see you at the Amex one day!

Ive heard back from my friend at Cadiz, Michael isn't currently actively involved with the club although he is very much still part of their extended family. My friend is passing this thread on to him so keep your memories and tributes coming! I'm sure Michael will see them at some point.

Great, great player for us. As others have said he didn't know the meaning of the term 'lost cause'. 100%, whole-hearted, committed, all those terms are true and more. Plus he wasn't just a big lump, he was genuinely skillful and it was no surprise when a big club (Liverpool) came in for him.

Should have said 'another' big club as we got him from Man City. They signed him from Preston for what was, in 1979, a staggering fee of £.75 m (Yes, there is a decimal after the pound and before the seven!).

When I close my eyes at night he is the last thing I see , and when I open them he’s usually the first thing I see , a true gent and a top top player who never ever gave up on the pitch and will hopefully make a full recovery, bloody love this man .

Yes he did and what a day that turned out to be. Packed White Hart Lane with them anticipating going top of Division 1 (that's the premier league now youngsters!)and we beat them 1-0. I remember the away end being open to home fans and a few of them got in amongst us. Nothing much happened mind. Then the walk to seven sisters. Not to mention the tube ride and getting through to Victoria station.
Going to the ground was just as eventful IRA was very active back then and we had to get off a couple of tube rides because of bomb scares. Also we had been in the Wimpey burger shop and on the Monday it was blown up by a bomb. I think the bomb disposal officer died whilst trying to diffuse it.

One of my all time favourite Albion players - who can forget the chant 'Micky' by Toni Basil! - Michael always chased seemingly lost causes, was always passionate, and loved the fans just as we loved him. I remember going to Anfield the day before his first match for Liverpool at the start of his first season, caught sight of him as the coach was leaving and he gave me a typical MR smile when he saw my Brighton scarf. If anyone can beat the C, Michael can. Top top chap - we are all right with you Robbo. Keep battling all the way. A true Seagull.

I recall a game against Watford around Christmas '82 when he stuck the nut on their 'keeper, Steve Sherwood but was only booked for it. The good old days........
