Michael Ricketts is poised to leave Leeds United after the Championship side reportedly informed the burly striker that he can leave on a free transfer.

Ricketts has never recaptured his former glories at Bolton where his impressive attacking play earned him a solitary England cap, and is likely to leave Elland Road if he can find a suitable suitor.

The 26-year-old was informed in May that he was not part of Kevin Blackwell's plans, and spent a spell on loan with Stoke as he failed to find a place at Elland Road.

Leeds are now keen to offload the hit-man over pre-season and are reported to have let Ricketts know that he is free to depart as they look to cut the wage bill.

The Yorkshire outfit will not be accruing a loss on the player after obtaining him for nothing last summer from Middlesbrough.

Ricketts failed to find the net on 21 occasions for Leeds last season and is now expected to move on before having the chance to open his league account for Blackwell's side.

I saw Michael Ricketts play today for Leeds Reserves against Stafford Rangers.

He didn't look out of place at that level. If MM signed him tomorrow, I would cry.
