Personally, I would be disappointed to see him at Brighton. Age/Injuriy prone etc..
What? He's only 31, he'll be above our level for a few years yet. Whomever he signs for would be wise to have clauses to pay him when he's fit, so I don't see his fitness as being a good reason for a small club to turn him down.

Not that it's relevant to us, he wouldn't want to join us, but I'm surprised anyone would be disappointed to see him join.

I think it will be classed as a non runner as nobody could win apart from the bookie! If they put a price for Man U in there then it would be a fair bet.

You may well be right. But usually if you back a non-runner ante-post then you don't get your money back. For example, here's Coral's rule:

A selection scratched from or not taking part in an ante-post event is a losing one, whether or not that selection entered the event.

Guess it probably comes down to the terms and conditions of the firm you laid the bet with.

Him being on the bench instead of berbatov is a good sign for him if you ask me! I heard from a united fan that they were planning to get rid of 10 players this season while bringing in rodwell, modric and de gea!

But, if a horse or dog gets scratched, then another horse or dog will win the event. In this case if he stays at Man U then it's the equivalent of all horses and dogs being withdrawn so the event surely has to be null and void! But if he signed for Torquay (mad but who knows!) then the bookie could keep the stakes as he has left Man U and therefore the bet was potentially winnable. ( I think!)

But it's all in the T&C's as you rightly state. :)

Really? Anyone could have won if he left, and if he doesn't then people don't win, that's part of the bet. If he signs a new deal with Utd I don't see how that's a non runner, just because they didn't offer odds. But if that's how it works (ie, they have to offer odds on Utd) fair enough.

To be honest, if that is how it works, the bookies should offer rubbish odds on him staying, and as soon as someone bets just stop taking bets on him staying - that would get around the problem and they'd keep all other bets.

Just looked up the specific rules for Skybet, where the Michael Owen betting is still current:

Player X To Sign For Team Y In Summer/January Window

You're betting on: whether the stated player will sign for the nominated club during the Summer or January Transfer Window
- Loan deals WILL count unless otherwise stated
- If the player fails to move club within the specified window, all bets will still stand.- Although every effort will be made to quote all potential new clubs, should a club not quoted sign the specified player all bets will stand.
- In cases where it is unclear whether a deal has been completed before a deadline, we reserve the right to delay settlement until official confirmation has been received from governing bodies.

Have to say I'm none the wiser as to whether 'all bets will stand' means you lose your money or you don't lose your money!

Fair play for looking it up  Your bold highlight seems to say that money will be lost (bet stands) even if he sticks with Man U.

It is complex! But Tom seems to have found the correct answer, which agrees with your post.

"I'd much rather take a pay cut and play for a Championship team team who can't afford to keep their top goalscorer rather than than stay with the best team in the country"

FFS... we CHOSE NOT TO MEET MURRAY's EXORBITANT WAGE DEMANDS... are you there yet!?
