Why what problems do they have???

Look, performance , build quality, cost compared to equivalent competition, no Diesel on offer, no estate on offer, only do one engine which is a measly 1.8............shall I go on?

Looks is a personal thing.
Performance 158bhp ain't bad
Build quality has it been about long enough to judge that.
Value you for money it has to be right up there.
Lack of models, ffs it's early doors yet.

So you haven't convinced me it's the duffer that you describe.

Was your ex Girlfriend/wife called Madge Gutteridge or something?

You're obviously just an MG fan boy so will probably stick your fingers in your ears and say lalalalalalaalalala whilst reading this..........but........

I've been in one, its interior is built from what feels like the plastic used on disposable water cups. Even American cars feel expensive and luxurious compared to it.

It also handles badly and has worse torque steer than a performance Vauxhall, and trust me, they're death traps.

It's not an MG, its a Chinese pile of shit with an MG badge stuck on the front. If you want believe its the 2nd coming of a proper MG then that's' fine, good luck with that, but don't try to con the rest of us.

it aint "bad" but i hope you arent bragging about that, a 20yo Golf 16v will do about that with basic tuning.

lets not knock it because where its built though. they make Ipads and a hell of alot of other premium stuff out there. quality is down to quality control, not where its built. if the people running the production are serious about this and impose strict QA, then you'll get good quality product. if they just wave it through as "done", you'll get something resembling 1970's british motor cars...

Had one as a rental a month or so ago. The worst car I have driven in a long time. Handles very poorly, feels underpowered for the amount it should have on tap, ergonomics for the driver poor (I'm tall, but not that tall), gearbox feels like someone's dropped a bunch of rubber bands in there.

not good.

Am I right in thinking that the MG's engine is still based on that of the 'k' series one from the rover days?(although a slightly new design)
Must admit, I've seen a couple and sat in one. Didn't think it looked too bad, but as others have said that's a personal thing.
Maybe a little on the plastic side inside but still had a few of the refinements.
Having a little one my concern was safety, and boot size. I personally felt the boot was a little smaller then say that of a octavia.
But on purchase price, quite reasonable.
Don't be too quick to judge china. People said the same thing about Japan 40-50 years ago and they arnt doing too bad now!

I've seen 2 so far in the last few weeks. One was on the back of a Westbourne Motors Recovery rig. Omens look less than good.

Ah. The mark of a true MG. I had the MGF when it first came out.... worst car I've ever owned. From brand new, it had an unlacquered door sill, large holes in the carpets, a six inch scratch gouged out of the glove box and mirror adjusters that fell off every few hundred miles along with too many rattles to mention. Its first breakdown occurred after about three months and by the time a year was up, it required some of the chassis to be re-welded to solve some ominous creaks and bangs.

Other than that, it was fun to drive.

Incidentally, when people are talking about the build quality of the Chinese.. isn't this one still made in Longbridge?

I'm not knocking it on where it's built but how it's built. It's poor compared to the competition being sold in Europe at the moment.

The Korean stuff like Hyundai and Kia have really stepped up their game, taking huge chunks of sales off more traditional makers like Citroen and Renault etc, in fact Renault have scrapped half of their range from the UK market now.

Chinese car production has a long way to go if it's going to compete in Europe, the only reason they're popular in their homeland is cause they're cheap and a lot of the design cues have been stolen from upmarket Euro marques. Makers like BMW have tried to take legal action over this but what can they do? these cars are only sold out side the EU and China and its car industry doesn't care cause currently nothing can really be done legally.

Saw a red one today, first I have seen I think. Not overly impressed, but didnt find it an offensive looking car. Run of the mill - Daewoo style thing

Even when the MGB was around they were old fashioned. I had one and sold it to buy an Alfa Romeo Spyder (like the one in the film the Graduate). The difference in the way the car drove was a real eye opener and sold me on Alfa Romeos. even today I still drive them. I'd suggest MG were on the downhill slope from the early seventies. A marque living on it's history. This new Chinese car bears no resemblance to an MG. It's all PR and it seems to be working if people are really considering them to be MGs.

Shame that MG hasn't been left to be remembered as a great marque that lost it's way.

Yes i am a fan,but not a boy, my grandfather had to do a lot with the development of the MG through the 30's and took a few world records in them, they looked after him and he returned the favour.
I am not silly i know this is not the original brand......But what is?

I would love to see anything to do with Britain succeed but we have a lot of shall i call it 'sheep' that prefer to slag off anything that's part british, i just feel a change of record is due and the MG will succeed IMO but only if they can get past the closed minds of the sheep.

Why the f*ck you feel i am trying to con people i don't know.
