That’s brilliant, you’d think after their DeBoer brothers cock up just last year, that they’d be really, really, careful about getting the right player, but, as in other ways, they just don’t learn.

I can’t wait, if they sing Jordan Ayew, what are the odds of a picture of Andre Ayew turning up somewhere in the publicity pics

The potential Ayew signing is fraught with danger for the hapless Palace PR team. Jordan is one of FOUR sons of Abedi 'Pele' (Ayew), all current or former professional footballers.

Odds on whose picture they'll use?

Jordan Ayew 5/4
Andre Ayew 3/1
Ibrahim Ayew 4/1
Imani Ayew 16/1
Abedi Pele 25/1

Who wouldn't be excited about signing this Meyer lad? Sure it hasn't worked out the way planned at Schalke and it seems he got fame and fortune at a very young age which has messed up his development - but the potential is there. If the only reason Arsenal and Liverpool haven't signed him is because of his 'character', that means he has the ability to play for one of the top 6. If he is serious about trying to reboot his career in the middle of the premier league then he might shine. We could see some interesting battles with this young lad, Meyer v Bissouma might be highly entertaining.

He probably went to palace because he knows if he doesn't get on with the current manager, it doesn't really matter because another will be along by Christmas.

He sounds like damaged goods.

The wages that lot pay out is absolutely incredible - their wagebill was already running at a mindboggling 80% of turnover BEFORE this latest mercenary joined the club. They are a small club paying top 6 salaries. Unlike us, if they get relegated it would be absolutely CATASTROPHIC for them. The way that club is being run, they would struggle to exist without all that TV money rolling in, they are entirely dependent on it now. No wonder they smashed the panic button just 4 games in last year - they know if they go down, they are absolutely fvcked.

They certainly like a gamble up there don't they.

............yet they've spent barely a penny on their ramshackle hovel of a ground in their PL years. Best part of half a BILLION pounds in income and nothing to show for it. Lots of Bentleys in the players car park though.

To be fair, that is an outrageous signing for them. If we'd have signed a player of his talent and reputation, we would be rubbing their faces in it - and quite rightly so.

Really? Had you heard of him before the 'issues' last season ?

Err, yes. He's been touted as one of the best young players in Europe for a few seasons now.

Fair enough. Good job he has been snapped up by one of Europes top clubs

I don’t think anyone on here, or at Crystal Palace, needs telling that the player lost his way a bit over the past year, and that this move offers him the chance to rebuild his reputation in a high profile league. His new club enjoys the mutual benefit of having a player at their disposal who they ordinarily wouldn’t be able to attract.

Also unnecessary is the journo’s lazy moralising over ‘Jadon Sancho’. Only time will tell if his conscientious, virtuous crusade benefits him better than the evil, money grabbing Meyer, or if his selfless sacrifice served only to provide said author with a clichèd parable to pad out his click bait article.

As has already been pointed out you are Palace.
However, ‘lost his way a bit’ is a gross understatement. He is ‘toxic’ in Germany. The normal route for someone of his talent is from Schalke to Bayern, so heading for palace is weird.
A quick five minutes on google shows that Schalke has a stunning stadium and excellent training facilities. You compare that with Palaces and it is no contest! He is either with you because:-

A) money
B) no one else will touch him ....

If he gets his head straight then he will be an excellent signing however if he doesn’t you’re going to have a mess of a dressing room. The importance of team spirit and togetherness isn’t to be under estimated, neither is the damage than one bad apple can inflict.

It’s not lazy journalism, he is pointing out the difference in attitude and the fact that one is money orientated and the other is not.
Not of difficult to understand.

He's clearly got attitude problems at the moment or a terrible agent (or both), but if they can get him playing anything like he is capable of then he will prove to be a terrific signing. Given his age, IF they get him playing, you're looking at turning a fairly big profit on him.

And lots of unemployed managers still on the CPFC2010 payroll.

Not sure about that. Talented yes, but his "reputation" is one of being damaged goods with a stinking attitude. Thats just not the type of signing our current recruitment team would be interested in - the players attitude and character are always big factors when BHA decide who to bring into the dressing room.

Its an opportunistic signing done on a whim. They're taking a chance, paying him a kings ransom, for a player who is a known troublemaker. His wages already outweigh the rest of his team-mates, so if he doesn't perform, it won't be long before the cracks start to appear there.

Massive gamble.

Or a piece offering to the palace faithful when zaha goes .....

Stats are one thing but attitude is something else. Our one is the polar opposite of theirs in that respect.

Exactly. Spot on.

You can have all the talent in the world but if you ain't right in the head, it won't end well. Mr Tumble is a classic example of that. Where might he be now if he hadn't bottled it at United? What might he have achieved by staying upright and not tried to cheat his way through his career.

We have a wonderful talent who, from what I have seen, is hardworking and humble. Great talent + great attitude = great player.

(And no, I wouldn't want Meyer. We really don't need a billy big bollocks upsetting our dressing room!)

CPFC are so tin point, they put up a picture of Joshua Kimmich on their website instead of Max Meyer

Did some digging. Found several sites have made the same mistake, inc goal.com.

It's due to a captioning error by the photographer at Getty Images during England v Germany, November 2017.

If a 22 year old widely recognised as a huge talent is not taken up by Juve, Inter, Milan, Napoli, Roma, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Atletico, Valencia, Bayern, Dortmund, PSG, Monaco, City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham then you probably should ask yourself a question of "why"?

If the answer is "He's not good enough for them" then don't pay him £170k a week

If the answer is "They don't like his attitude" then don't pay him £170k a week.
