Silly old bat
Law unto themselves. Love a ruck, love an arrest with any excuse to do so. Especially with a nod and a wink from the Government in power. They don't police by consent, they are the Home Secretary's (of any flavour) private Police Force.
Pritti Patel was in full collusion with breaking up the Sarah Everard vigil.
The courts have since ruled the police action was unlawful, but nobody seems to have been blamed for it, just a ‘nothing to see here’ and let’s move on.
Over 800 officers are being investigated for sexual offences.

A university lecturer, aged 24 at the time, was simply handing out leaflets at a demonstration, advising them of their legal rights, was arrested, stripped, humiliated (by females as well) and kept in cells. She was acquitted but she claimed against the police for the injuries the caused, and the humiliation. It took 8 years but she got compensation and an apology. It doesn’t appear anyone lost their job over it.

They so often get it wrong. As much as I though they were w******* the way they dealt with anti lockdown / vaccine protesters on the common was bonkers.

They've completely lost all ability to ascertain what is a threat or isn't. They've long ceased to serve the people. Cynically they will wave rainbow flags at pride and dance at Notting Hill, but if Whitehall rings it's back to basics.

They are the elite guards of whatever party is in power and many in their ranks absolutely love it, pumped up by today.

That connection needs to be broken and it's time us Londoners had a normal police force that upholds the law and not Daily Mail headlines.

You've let us down and I spoken to officers in other forces who feel exactly the same.

Perhaps Braverman should resign again ?

Sunak would re-appoint her anyway in a few days so it'd just be a short holiday for her really. Lol.

As per thread title. The source is the journalist himself. However, Mic is a superb journalist and a guy I’ve interacted with on Twitter in the past. He’s neither a conspiracy theorist nor a socialist.

I'm no fan of the Gov crackdown on the right to protest or dissent. Story is pretty shocking. Fair play to Mic for undercovering it.

But why are you trying to present the Irish-born, anti-royalist (dur!) and professional agitator as some kind of neutral observer?

His own bio says: Currently playing "mic will have his revenge on fleet street” Writer, podcaster, union member. newsletter which features “caustic opinions”

Many folks will remember Goldstone policing from the 80s and 90s. The police there were more interested in going after Albion fans, the majority of whom were benign. I remember a friend being hauled out and expelled for simple singing 'John Wark has a face like a hippos bum'..

It was a game of fun for the police. They had their targets and they were after teenagers who wouldn't say boo to a goose. Then one day it took a turn and they failed in their duty badly.

@Guinness Boy will confirm the story

After the FA Cup match against Scunthorpe some of their crew were looking for trouble. A few of them came piling through the crowd heading up Old Shoreham and one of them smacked a member of our group to the ground (the smallest of the group. 17 years old but looked much younger). Incensed, I gave chase and cornered one of them who then ran down Old Shoreham and hid behind some policeman. I saw him, and went straight to the police he stood behind. I was then joined by another Albion fan I knew. We were told in no uncertain terms to go away. They weren't interested. The only folk likely to be arrested was us.

There were more Albion fans attacked that day (I witnessed it) and as I got to Hove station I saw a London train leaving with the original culprit cowering in a corner.

To me, this was a summary of how it worked then, and it may be little different now. They have their targets and that is their first and primary interest. After that it's a general application of the law. And that's what happened yesterday in London.

I don't think policing in this country has ever recovered from the huge influx of sociopathic bullies recruited specifically to beat up starving miners whose training mainly consisted of how to collude in getting away with it and fitting up their victims.

don’t think their 2024 manifesto is due out today
Off topic I know but it really should be at least in the pipeline

In 44/45 years the only leader of the opposition to win a GE and form a majority government was Tony Blair in May 1997 and his manifesto came out (most unusually admittedly) in June 1996

From the BBC website - quote from the Culture Secretary. Clearly it was about 'looking good', and at the behest of the politicians.

Of course it’s in the pipeline but they’re hardly going to release details when the news is dominated by local elections and a Coronation:facepalm:

I see the hand on head 😊
Out of interest when do you think it will be released?

Personally I think it won’t be until the election is announced either next spring or even next autumn ….and that is a mistake

Heard one of the protestors yesterday and he said they had met the police weeks before and talked through what they were going to do and in which location to make sure it was all ok, police gave it the sign off and then ended up arresting a load of them!

They are happy for just stop oil to stop traffic etc, but they don't want anyone with a sign.

They are a complete mess.

No they are not. These rules came in, partly as a result of environmentalists’ protests. Just Stop Oil protesters get severe treatment now.
