Argentina forward Lionel Messi believes England are among the leading contenders to win the World Cup in South Africa this summer.

Spain and Brazil are the most fancied sides to lift the trophy but the Barcelona star believes England should be considered as one of the favourites.

"I think that right now, the strongest sides going into the World Cup are Spain, England and Brazil," he said.

"They had a strong, easy qualifying campaign and are very tough."

But then, what would Messi know about FOOTBALL? :dunce:

It's lucky that Argentina have such an egotistical cokehead as manager or they would be in with a better chance than us. As it is I expect them to implode under instructions they don't even understand.

Don't get too excited - other similarly top class players are probably saying the same thing about Germany, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, Ivory Coast and France. I'd suggest that only Spain and Brazil feature in nearly everybody's top 3 tournament threats.

Still, it is nice to be in with a chance. :)

Those pesky Germans will be there or thereabouts, they always are however shit their team.

For the record I think it's something like....

Brazil/Spain
.
.
.
England/Holland
.
.
Italy/Germany/Argentina
.
.
.
.
.
France/Ivory Coast/Portugal

in distance order of how good a chance I think each team has got of winning the thing.

He wasn't talking to the English media though. If that's the case, why didn't he list Italy, France, Germany? Would be pointless to "make up" that he thinks Brazil, Spain and England are the favourites, surely?

I would tend to agree with that, he keeps telling people how good he is, that he is the special one...the unfortunate thing is that his record seems to back up his over-inflated opinions of self-importance.

See, I don't get too annoyed about people being that arrogant, IF they back it up.

Both him and Cristiano Ronaldo back their claims up.

Mourinho, at FORTY SEVEN, could well be on course for his third Champions League trophy next year. If he carries on for the next 20 years there is no question he will be the most successful manager of all time.

Cristiano Ronaldo (and Messi) can do things with a football that Pele/Maradona etc could never even dream of. But then Glen Johnson has scored better goals than Pele so let's not go through all that again

Sorry, are you actually trying to suggest that because someone has scored better goals than someone else, they are a better player? And please do not tell me you are not insinuating Glen Johnson is a better player than Pele was. I mean claiming he's better than George Best was far enough...

If you are doing so, could you please tell me what grounds you are basing this on? Were you about to watch Pele and Best in their prime? Or have you just watched dodgy youtube clips of them and made your judgement on that?

I simply fail to see how you can justify what you said. I never saw Pele or Best play, but I would still never claim something so ridiculous because I'm in no position to do so - as I imagine you are.
