Listened to a couple of people on the phone-in last night and there seem to be plenty on here that think Roberts had a crap game last night. Not sure what game they were watching but it was clearly different to mine.

Roberts made one mistake and managed to rescue the situation before anything happened.

Other than that, he made 2 excellent saves - one when El-Abd sold him short at the beginning of the second half and then one at the end before their striker missed the open goal.

His handling was spot-on. He came for every cross in difficult conditions and held on to the ball (very different to their keeper who flapped at anything that came his way) and also nearly set up a goal with a brilliant throw-out to Leon in the second half that went well into Vale's half.

I wish people would get off his back. If he makes a cock-up, then fair enough but last night he played bloody well apart from one howler which he sorted out before we got punished for it.

not knocking him but feel he should have pushed the late shot round the post for a corner rather pushing it up in the air - easy from the stands know!

'fraid he makes too many "loss of concentration" mistakes - throws to opposition, getting tackled, etc.

I prefer Kuipers but it's not an option at present

That last shot was bending all over the place as we were right behind it,so get off the mans back,as I thought it was a quality save,
You should start looking at our 3 defenders who all bought Littlejohns shoulder drop before he shot!!

Yes i think you must have been watching a different game. Coco dropped the ball nearly every chance he could :nono: His distribution was unbelievable! He threw the ball out to the wrong team a couple of times, and then decided to play throw the ball to himself :dunce:
Just having him in goal makes me fear the worse these days.

Dropped the ball every chance he could???? That is bollox. He either caught it or parried it down which was always totally under control. He didn't fumble one ball last night.

I admit his distibution, on occasion, wasn't great but Beasant has been the only keeper at the club in recent years who has had good distribution.

He did drop it on a couple of occassions but i actually think it was one of his better games so far this season.

The problem with Roberts is his lack of confidence, which seems to have gone down since he started with us . Put him under a bit of pressure, and he makes mistakes...He fumbled or dropped the ball several times yesterday, pushed it away when he should have caught it clean, and iMHO, was partly to blame for the first goal at QPR.

He seems too 'nice' . He needs more detmination and needs to make his presence felt a lot more in the box.

His distribution on nearly every occasion was/is pants. He hoofed it upfield with the wind at his back-giving the ball straight back to the opposition.

His dead ball kicking is terrible-barely keeps the ball in play or kicks it straight to the opposition.

He is best when rolling the ball to a team-mate and he even managed to f*** that up last night, once excellent for the comedic value but not too good when we were looking for some confidence building at the back.

I thought he would be good for us when he first arrived but I'm not so sure now. His positioning is sometimes questionable and I'm sure the defence gets jittery as a result.

Catching the ball first time would be under control, having to parry the ball down isn't!

I know Kuipers kicking isn't the best best, but atleast he can throw a ball to the right player.

Well said Bald Gull. I'm getting mighty sick of all this Roberts knocking. As for someone's comment: " His dead ball kicking is terrible-barely keeps the ball in play or kicks it straight to the opposition." I think this more aptly describes Kuipers. Roberts has shown in the past that he is better at kicking and distribution than Kuipers alrthough I agree that maybe his confidence has gone down of late but, no wonder, if he is aware that some people keep getting on his back in favour of Kuipers. I agree with Trigger's comment as, apart from one or two incidents, I think he actually played well yesterday.

I get sick of all the player knocking not just Roberts,Jones,Mayo and a few others are regulars. Some fans have short memories.
Kuipers id a great shot stopper, but his distribution is much worse then Roberts.Kuipers can't kick. Roberts is much better taking crosses. Kuipers has had a few howlers in the past,Roberts just becomes an easy target.:censored: :censored:

I didn't watch the game yesterday but feel Roberts is the fans "scapegoat". So far this season, I have seen both Roberts and Kuipers make some terrible mistakes. I think that the competition has made both goalkeepers jittery.

I happen to think that Kuipers has more presence in the box yet Roberts is better at knowing when and when not to come out for balls.

I don't actually care who the better kicker is as we never get the ball either way as our team are short! We are better at rolling the ball from the back and passing. The few times we have done it (and it has only been a few), we have played a lot better and looked like a team who CAN play well when they put their minds to it.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
I didn't hear the phone-in last night but its no great surprise that Roberts makes mistakes especially when you get some bufoon in E block last night shouting out 'Nice one Coco !! every 5 minutes or so and the general undertone is hardly complimentary.

That was before he made the error with the throw out, which happens to keepers all the time in the wet, I seem to remember FDM doing a similar thing against Forrest a few years back.

For fucks sake at the moment he is all we have, and most other 2nd Division clubs would be pleased to have him as first choice.

Roberts is a great keeper. He has his moments, but I would settle with him over any other keeper in this division. End of.:salute:

everyone loves kuipers, so when roberts takes his place people are going to pick up on every little mistake he makes, and if he doesn't make any, it'll be 'oh god! drop roberts, he's combed his hair wrong', or 'get him off! his shirt clashes with his eyes'

i never noticed all these people having a go at roberts having a go at kuipers when he constantly hoofed the ball into the stands. roberts does have his moments, but doesn't every keeper?

Sorry to upset a lot of you but Kuipers isnt even in the same league as Roberts. Ben is by far and away the better keeper. Having kuipers in goal gives the opposition a psychological advantage every time. Only my opinion though.

What are you people on about?

Kuipers is by far the better keeper. So what is Roberts can kick a ball straighter than Kuipers? The main thing for a goalkeeper stopping the ball cross the goal line and there is no doubting Kuipers is the better of the two at that!

I won't slag Roberts off but he does make me nervy at the minutes. Hope he regains the form from last season soon but once Kuipers is fit he would definatly get my vote.

I have to agree, Kuipers is by far the better keeper, his shotstopping is immense. I cant think of many 'wonder saves' from Roberts and how the f*** was he in inspired form ?!?!?!?!
