Meridian Falmer Story

In my ignorance just how far away is the village of Falmer from our Stadium and is Moulscombe actually nearer?

This could be a selling point. Since jobs etc will be created in one of the Country most deprived areas.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Falmer is a picture postcard village.

Absolutely, just make sure they get the Eddie Stobarts hammering down the A27 on those cards.

The opponents claim is true. I am sorry if you disagree, but as I have already said, we couldn't have tried harder to be fair to both sides.
I'm sorry, but that is patently BOLLOCKS.
"Brighton & Hove Albion" did NOT sell the football ground - a couple of unscrupulous businessmen and a local MP who were in charge at the time did. The ground was sold from under the clubs feet, with NOWHERE else to go, and having made their money, said businessmen and MP quickly departed, leaving behind the club, its new chairman and its fans to pick up the pieces. To associate this with the current board and wield it as a "well you shouldn't have sold the ground should you ?" argument is monstrously wide of the mark.

Brighton & Hove Albion was raped. Comparing it to Southampton FC selling The Dell is absolutely ridiculous. They had a brand new 30,000 all-seater stadium to move to. We had Gillingham. Its exactly this kind of lazy journalism and muck-spreading that reminds me why I detest that f***ing Hampshire lot so much.

OK. Apart from the fact that the FOR Falmer argument was posed weakly and that the no vote was past last, thus last in your mind...

FALMER NO

Well, there are two sides to every story. And plenty of people who argue that Falmer is the last place to build a massive football stadium. Villagers say the development would blight the South Downs and destroy their way of life.

In this sense they are right. Waterhall is by far the best place to build the stadium but that will NEVER happen. Basically it's north of the A27. I man made line above which we cannot develop.

Falmer is a picture postcard village, nestling at the foot of the South Downs.

No it is not! It used to be before they built TWO universities, a racket club and last but not leaset a ruddy great big DUAL CARRAGEWAY through the middle of it!

The people who live here cherish its charm.

Each to their own I guess.

People like Peter Lenihan. He farms the very field where the club wants to build its stadium.

"It's a conglomeration, it's everything.

Traffic congestion,
road access will IMPROVE as part of the stadium.

noise pollution,
neglegable compared to that of the DUAL CARRAGEWAY!! And it's only every other week for 9 months of the year!! During the winter when you have your windows shut anyway!

the fact that in amongst the bottom end of the Downs here we will have a very, very large structure which just will not belong. It's just the wrong place."

It's a damn site better the the TWO universities you're living with!

At the public inquiry, villagers were backed by conservation groups. They argued the club was trying to bulldoze through a scheme which flies in the face of national policies to protect the countryside.

A bloody slow bulldozer mate!

And they accused Albion and the City Council of down-playing other possible locations for the stadium.

Would they like to expand on this ?? Where would they suggest is more feasible?

The land at Falmer is a greenfield site,
Not all of the land we're usiung is greefield. And the land that we want to use has already been earmarked for development. If it's not a stadium how does an out of town supermarket grag you?

in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,
debateable!

bordering the proposed South Downs National Park.
bodering mate! not IN it!

"I very much hope for the sake of the fans and the club that a Plan B exists to go somewhere else if Falmer turns out to be rejected by the inspector. But if the club has put all its eggs in one basket, then it's only got itself to blame for the position it finds itself in."
The has only ever been one basket to put our eggs in! it's Falmer or bust!

Enlisting the help of celebrities like Des Lynam, the club has run a concerted PR campaign. But look beyond the hype, say opponents, and there's one indisputable fact. The football club made itself homeless by selling the Goldstone ground to developers. And the people of Falmer are not prepared to pay the price for that decision.

And Albion fans are not prepared to put up with Nimby twats that most likely weren't born in Sussex but have come down here to die! Well f*** off to Eastbourne then!

Err, do you mind? Got enough blue rinses dragging their decrepid carcases around the place as it is. Send 'em to Bexhill.

Otherwise an expert piece of disection.

Just sent this rant.............................

Dear Mr Ritchie

I have just read your reply to a message about Brighton and Hove Albion where you state:
"The opponents claim is true. Brighton and Hove Albion did sell the Goldstone
Ground just as Southampton football club - not Rupert Lowe - sold The Dell and
Hampshire cricket club - not their chairman - sold their ground.
I am sorry if you disagree, but as I have already said, we couldn't have tried

Of course I would not expect to critcise the actions of Southampton FC, you wouldn't dare because they are far too close to your home, but as a former journalist, if that's your idea of fair reporting then words fail me.

It just shows how ignorant, shoddy, one sided and ill-researched your news items have become , especially when reporting the affairs of BHA. You might as well report that Portsmouth FC made us homeless when they renaged on the groundshare deal which they had signed (but of course you wouldn't do that because they're in Hamspshire.

If you are going to employ idiots, make sure they Hampshire biased idiots - just so we know.

HERE'S MINE........

Meridian reporting of Brighton proposed application at Falmer.

Your reporter's emphasis in the summary and NO to Falmer was loaded with biased language to influence a viewer's opionion. A Picture Post card Village implies a place with a few ancient cottages, with thatched roof's, a pond, tranquill, a couple of roaming hens, and small unsurfaces paths. Actually Falmer posseses modern modern buildings, a dual carriageway splits the wide sparse of housing,it is adjacent to the 1960's built Sussex University.

The land is not farmed. It is a wasteland, and presently possesses University buildings over some of the area. The No suggested option should have been disputed by your reporter as it is actually within the South Downs, is particlarly pleasant and will be a part of the National Park. Therefore a non-realistic and viable option.

Falmer is also adjacent to one of Britain's most deprived areas of East Brighton, which will benefit from new job and training opportunities. A key factor in a balanced report.

Just seen the report on Meridian Tonight. Can't believe the bloke who claims to farm the land at Falmer complaining about the potential noise pollution with the roar of the A27 clearly audible in the background. Total :censored:

Meridian are obviously unrepentant - they broadcast exactly the same story on their 6 o'clock programme.:censored:

My email:

I was disappointed to hear your "reporter" say that "There is one indisputable fact - the football club made itself homeless by selling their own ground."
For the record:

1. The club was bought for the reason of selling the ground.
2. They then tried to run the club out of business. the Argus revealed long-standing rules governing chairman Bill Archer and co-owner Stanley had changed, meaning they could profit from the sale.
3. Supporters were reassured that it would not be sold until a new ground was available, and fought hard to help gain the council's approval; but when it leaked out in 1995 that a conditional contract of sale (the conditions have never been revealed) had been signed and that the new venue would be Fratton Park, Portsmouth, a bitter battle broke out between supporters and the board.

Please try to do some research before going on TV

You Motherf***ers (er i didn't add this bit ;) )

On NSC for over two decades...
I suppose that technically it is accurate to say that Brighton & Hove Albion FC did sell the Goldstone Ground. But the implication in the report that this is the fault of the present owners of the club is frankly ludicrous. The Goldstone was sold NINE years ago, the club is operated in a much different manner now.

I suppose under Meridian logic then the current German govenment is responsible for the second the world war?

Would we be getting this "unbiased look at both sides of the story" if it was Portsmouths hunt for a new ground that had taken a turn for the worse, I very much doubt it would be anything other than Meridian tonight 100% behind Portsmouth Football Clubs search for a new home. Bunch of cnuts the lot of them.

Just sent an e-mail to the tossers as well. I think we should all do it. I don't care if it pisses them off now as they will learn that if you do not treat us with respect then why the hell should me treat them with respect. They are as bad as politicians in my book. GRRRR
