In some ways it is fortunate for Kaoru that there were so many poor Japanese penalties that it isn't all on his shoulders. So he mainly has the general disappointment to deal with.

The Japanese penalties were very poor. However, it looked to me as if the Croatia goalie was in front of the goal line when the ball was kicked for several of these and they should have been re taken.

He wasn’t, the replays clearly showed he still had a foot touching the line when the pen taker kicked the ball.

I think I went to that game. My main memory was of England being shite, we lost 0-2 I think, Rooney then gave the wanker sign to England fans as the players were leaving the ground, he’d have been lynched if we weren’t locked behind barriers. He went from hero to zero in seconds for me that night.

I have been on a stag do in Zagreb and we had a brilliant time. A nice hotel just off the main square. It was during euros 2016 and we loved the atmosphere for a Croatia match that we watched in the main square. England were not in town which meant the locals were all Great to us. It was still very cheap food and drink in 2016.

Oh undoubtedly, I'm not saying that it's easy at all, quite the opposite in fact. I'm just saying that because of the nerves the path of least resistance would be to hit the ball where you're most comfortable. Try and take the nerves out of the equation as much as possible.

I saw an interview with Lineker and with those top, top players the mindset is different because they're a different breed. Their ability to tune out "the noise" and calmly stroke the ball home is remarkable.

A real difference maker... unfortunately I don't think it is entirely impossible that he will be the new Cucurella in the sense "easy come, easy go". Anyone who watched the pre-World Cup documentary Bozza posted will know how determined and motivated this bloke is, and that he won't be satisfied until he's one of the best in the world.
