I remember driving up to the old den, evening game and we were late, so parked car outside this pub, we beat them, walked out the ground 4 of us, getting chased through these blocks of flats, by loads of blokes, from about 13 to 50 years old, managed to get back to the ground, where we were escorted round the ground to the players changing rooms, saw Barry lloyd told him what had happened, he shrugged his shoulders and said nothing to do with me, then we told the main copper on duty where we parked our car, he said WE dont even go down there. then after much pleading he drove us down near the pub, we had to run for our lives to get to the car. by the time we got to car, the brave old bill had all ready sped off.
ahhhh the memories !!!

only seen brighton v millwall 3 times, first one was a 2-0 away defeat, then lost 2-1 at home on NEW YEARS EVE and of course 3-0 last season which seemed like a pre season friendly for some reason

Has to be that play off semi final, and Codner charging through and SMASHING it in the goal in front of me in the South Stand

That and the Friday night when we soccered them off the park last season with 2 goals in the first 20minutes. This was the best atmosphere over 90minutes at Withdean EVER!!!!

In a pile of football shirts
Quite enjoyed it when we ripped the piss out of their fans for wearing pink shirts, then promptly beat them with only 10 men

Play off semi away at the Den. After winning there was a mixture of euphoria and nervousness as the home support refused to go home and started lighted fires on the terraces. Then being escorted back to the station through some real rough areas, expecting an ambush at any moment.

Remember that well. When they ran the police across the terracing and set light to the policemans hat and throw it on the stand roof. Was wondering how we were going to get home alive. Cold Blow Lane was a very intimidating place to go. Not like the New Den at all.

The paly-off wins in ’91 were phenomenal, but the first time I saw Millwall was a couple of years earlier at the Goldstone and I was a bit nervous to be honest. Can’t remember the match but on the train afterwards from Hove to Brighton I remember being quiet as a church mouse. However as the train to Lewes started pulling away from the platform the release of tension was too much for me and my excitable 15 year old mates to bare (being naughty boys and occupying one of the old first class booths without a proper ticket, oh my) and we started singing “We hate Millwall and we hate Millwall..” at the top of our voices, thinking we were now safe from all those nasty cockney thugs. I know, I know, we were twats, but isn’t everyone at 15?
Anyhoo. Just then the corridor starts filling up with all these fellas from the main carriage we hadn’t noticed get on our train. Not a word was said as about 20 of them crowded out our compartment, sitting around us and blocking off our exit. Our faces must have been a picture, all the blood drained from my face. I was absolutely terrified. So there is complete silence, all our minds are racing and I can hardly breathe, what the f*** is going to happen now? I really thought we were going to be pushed out of a moving train. They let us sit like that for what felt like hours but was probably about a minute. Then the top boy says, calm as you like, “Wanna give us another chorus of that boys?” I nearly shat myself.

Leg out of the bed
Saw Brighton win 1-0 at the old Den in the Eighties. Ferguson scored the only goal. We were behind one goal with a fenced area seperating us from their fans. It seemed as if they were fighting amongst themselves. I have this mental image of a policeman's helmet being batted up, like we do with a balloon.
After the game we were on a coach and we went past some of their supporters. I was mouthing '1-0,1-0,1-0....' out of the window and then the coach stopped at some traffic lights! The Millwall fans caught up with the coach and were mouthing, 'What was the score mate?....'

Worrying :shootself

Two or three seasons ago, my dad, my brother and I were walking out after the game to go to the station where there's the fencing all the way around, apart from the top! and loads of bloody Millwall fans threw bits of brick and stones over! Quite scary..

I was there too when the brick flew at me and my mates. I said to the copper next to me, did you just see that guy throw it. He told me I couldnt prove it. I said its the one over there hurling abuse and giving the :tosser: sign with one hand, holding a rock in the other.

The copper to my disbelief said "its not that bad, its fairly normal"

I then remember going into a rant with the copper who it is NOT normal that someone should hurl a brick at me as I walk down the street

Oh really? One nearly hit me and my brother too. I'm quite susrprised of the policeman's response that you couldn't prove it. They probably see it most games and somehow must be the norm to them, still it's far from normal.

Don't blame you for your rant, I would of done the same thing.

Also remember when i was just a little lad, my nan bought me to the den, but my uncle insisted we went in the home end, as he thought there would be less trouble in there end, his face was a picture when i reconised him and started to wave to him,as we were in stand next to the Brighton fans ha ha.Then my nan wanted to use the loo in millwalls main hooligan stand, and the loo was locked, we had to find a steward and ask for a key, stewdard said they never have a woman in this stand, he managed to get a key, she always said that was the cleanest loo she had ever been in. ha ha

a truly frightening time ..that and the big ruck at The den in 1976 ( I think)
The New Den is positively pleasant compared to the old days !

Two spring to mind for me.

The injury time winner from Gary Hart at Withdean or the JP Cup win on pens with 800 Brighton fans going mental at an EMPTY New Den.

Being 2 - 0 down at half time, only to win 3-2 at full time under Mullery sticks in my mind.

We were in the South West with a load of Millwall in "Treatment" surgery masks.

Whilst we won it was NOT a comfortable afternoon!

Did many people leave at half time?
