Memories of games against Millwall

I was there

1-0 (Ward) to us wasn't it? Absolutely terrifying afternoon.

I remember that. A great goal by Wardy - beat two men and then slid it in the net if I remember rightly. I was in the Cold Blow Lane end as we figured there was nowhere safe, and started to clap but my brother-in-law stared daggers at me and I soon stopped. I remember a load of Brighton fans (previously quiet) jumping up in the seats, only for the Millwall to charge them and many disappeared.

Afterwards I saw a mate of mine being chased down the road after having his neck bitten open. I was very glad to get back in the car and lock the door that day.

Cardiff? No contest.

I remember a game at the Goldstone in Dec 1991 (I think) in which we lost 4-3 and the terrible ref was called Bob ??

Did many people leave at half time?

I think some left on stretchers! but there was no internet to post to let people know that they had left!

:QUOTE=Elder for England;2654588]Two or three seasons ago, my dad, my brother and I were walking out after the game to go to the station where there's the fencing all the way around, apart from the top! and loads of bloody Millwall fans threw bits of brick and stones over! Quite scary..[/QUOTE]scary stuff???

Vaguely rings a bell. Did the ref not come out for the second half by any chance? I might be thinking of another game...

Millwall away 1985 {Ferguson got the only goal) if they would of managed to pull the fence down there would of been carnage.

Last season's two matches stick in my mind. The home game was one of the highlights of the season. It was a beautiful warm late summer evening, the atmosphere was brilliant and we won 3-0.

The away game on Boxing day was not so much fun. I think it was around this time that Dean Wilkins' days were numbered. There was loads of uprest in the team with Bas Savage, O'Callaghan and Hammond etc. That was probably as bad a performance as we gave last season. Still I was pleased to get out of the house on Boxing day and find a bit of peace and quiet.

Being 2 - 0 down at half time, only to win 3-2 at full time under Mullery sticks in my mind.

We were in the South West with a load of Millwall in "Treatment" surgery masks.

Whilst we won it was NOT a comfortable afternoon!

Circa 1978 and it was one of the earlier games of the season after promotion...remember it well. For some reason, the Millwall supporters were to the south of the Tunnel...in the south west terrace.

Millwall went 2 up, BHA won 3-2 and the travelling support didn't like it at all.

Ive got the programme here as well somewhere !!!

Has to be that play off semi final, and Codner charging through and SMASHING it in the goal in front of me in the South Stand

That and the Friday night when we soccered them off the park last season with 2 goals in the first 20minutes. This was the best atmosphere over 90minutes at Withdean EVER!!!!

Wow..so many games to choose from.

The two playoff games are the obvious choice, but the two away trips from a couple of years ago when we beat them in the league and in the JPT... both with 10 men and both games we scored late on.

Also last season at home was for me the best we played all season

A cup replay in the 50s when I bunked off of school with a pal and then jumped on the trains to The Den without tickets. Millwall had 2 inside forwards Johnny Shepherd, who later joined us and Ron Heckman.

The Away game a few years ago where we won 2/3-0 and the year before where we won 1-0?

And the home game last season was a treat

If I had been quick enough to do my "Most memorable" then this would have been my one for home games. Now, the boring details.....

We had just been promoted and our 1st game was a good draw with saints at the Dell and there was loads of trouble, we had certainly moved up into bigtime football both on the pitch and on the terraces.

So,Millwall was the 1st home game, always feisty opponents and they were down in force. In those days not many games were all ticket and away fans had little trouble getting into home ends passed OB who didn't seem to have a clue. Once inside, it would all 'kick off' in time with the match. Millwall's thing, back then, were these blue surgical masks, bit like balaclavas.

In the 1st half Albion took a beating on & off the pitch and promotion seemed ages away. Despite being August, the weather was awful, grey & raining hard. We went in at half time at 0-2, game over. bit like on last tuesday.

Mullery was not best pleased and, after a short rant, he sent the players back out into the rain and the embarresment of spending halftime infront of over 20,000 fans.

But football is a game of 2 halves. The OB had sorte the 'wall fans into some sort of segregation and Albion set about turning the game around, which they did to win 3-2. The team never looked back and were so unlucky to miss promotion on the last day of the season.

I was there too when the brick flew at me and my mates. I said to the copper next to me, did you just see that guy throw it. He told me I couldnt prove it. I said its the one over there hurling abuse and giving the :tosser: sign with one hand, holding a rock in the other.

The copper to my disbelief said "its not that bad, its fairly normal"

I then remember going into a rant with the copper who it is NOT normal that someone should hurl a brick at me as I walk down the street

I was there for that my first away game my first experience of football holliganhism

luckily me my mate and his bird were on the other side but i still put my hood up and luckily it covered my face thank f**k while my m8 put his newspaper to protect his head
