I think I read somewhere that they were also binning off the backroom "masterminds" who were in charge of recruitment, so whoever comes in will hold sway on the targets and the signings (ie being a manager rather than a coach). Sounds familiar.

Mind you, at least we weren't balls-deep into an £80m+ in transfer fees f-up.
I don't know about £80M, but I wouldn't have minded Shelvey and Townsend coming our way in January!

Neither would I. But after the shambolic transfer policy at that club over the last few years, it was going to take a lot more than those two (half) decent signings to turn them around.

You'd assume if relegated Shelvey and Townsend would leave. Very good players. Would destroy this division. Was amazed they went there in the predicament Newcastle were in at the time.

6 months :lolol:

Newcastles spending, season 2015/16:

Georginio Wijnaldum £14,500,000
Aleksandar Mitrović £13,000,000
Chancel Mbemba £6,900,000
Florian Thauvin £12,000,000
Henri Saivet £4,500,000
Jonjo Shelvey £12,000,000
Andros Townsend £12,000,000

So that's what £75m gets you these days. Money well spent....

I hope if/when we go up we don't spunk all our new found riches on a pile of shit like that.

And you can bet that relegation wouldn't even have entered their minds when splashing the cash on the contracts for these deadbeats (Shelvey and Townsend excepted). There'll be no relegation clauses in those deals, like they have with Rafa, so if they DO make the drop, they are well and truly LUMBERED with a whole raft of eyewateringly expensive foreign junk on their payroll.

I don't know about £12M each, but I wouldn't describe Shelvey and Townsend as a pile of shit. If we do swap places with Newcastle next season, I wouldn't mind taking those two off their hands.

Neither have lived up to their early promise. Have gone backwards imho.

Out of all that, i'd take Wijnaldum as he has looked good - anyone else is overpriced or just hasn't played as well as they should.

Shelvey - maybe; but I'd back Hughton to get the best out of him better than McLaren!
Townsend I think just got edged out at Spurs because of better players coming through, the same as happened to Lennon.

But don't worry, I'm not about to start loads of threads about how we must get those two in. I mean, we've got to sort out the shortage of Murrays in the team first, haven't we!

Assuming they're on 3-4 year deals, that's next year's parachute payments gone in amortisation before a PL sized wage has even been paid!

That list is a serious warning to newly promoted clubs. Would make an interesting contrast with Bournemouth's expenditure this season.

I think Benitez will keep them up, Norwich and Palace to go down. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.

That's exactly what I think will happen. Norwich are rubbish and have absolutely no footballing identity at all and Palace, well. Dropping like a stone and if they do get relegated it will be one of the all time great and wonderful collapses.

Steve McLaren will be doing extremely well to get himself another job as a manager. I honestly can't see why any club would hire him now. He blew it at Derby completely and his Newcastle team, despite how much he invested, was ridiculously poor. He's just a bad manager, however you look at it.
