McGhee WILL keep us up

What with all the talk about how we aren't signing any players and how our squad isn't good enough to stay in the 'Championship' I've been thinking about our chances this time round compared to that of two years ago.

Personally I think we've got a much better chance.

It seems we have a manager who is going to stick around and prove his worth AGAIN in this division which is a gret foundation to have, McGhee is one who instills confidence in his players as has been seen with the emergence of the youngsters such as Harding, Virgo and El-Abd who look older than their years on the pitch.

Ben Roberts is an excellent keeper who, towards the end of last season, looked a class act especially as he wasn't trying to take on opposing strikers at every opportunity. His back up in Kuipers is very strong, as we all know.

Cullip and Butters are rocks at the back now and seem to have a great understanding after a very successful season defensively last year.

The midifeld has already been identified as a problem but I really don't think it's THAT bad. Chippy and Rodger we know can do jobs, Jones looks more consisitent than ever and with Hart, Reid, Oatway and Hammond there as well I think it's loooks relatively good.

The strikers are the other positions that we need to look at. There's Knight of course who I think will be a very dangerous player this year, he will be very eager to prove himself at this level. We know he can score goals and lots of them so if he is given the chances he'll put them away.
As for the other striker (now Lumo may be f***ing off), it needs to be a new signing. McPhee (as much as I like him) is not up to it at this level and Robinson is to young and too small to play up with Knight.

McGhee is the key though, he needs a couple of players and it seems will be given some funds to get a couple in. He has a lot of mates in the game and it seems he won't sign players just because he can which is very important considering our financial position. Be patient with him, I believe he is the best man for the job (I said that about Coppell you know).

Above all lets f***ing enjoy this year, get behind the boys and sing louder than you ever did before. Just imagine the feeling come the end of the season when we have defied the odds and stayed in the Chapmionship to mix it with the likes of Leeds, West Ham, Sunderland, Ipswich and Forest once more.

I can't bloody wait.

Rodger could do a job.

Oatway is not good enough; Hammond could not get into the team last year. Jones and Hart could do with being replaced.

We need at least one wide player, one central midfielder, two strikers and possibly a full back.

That should not be beyond our budget and we should then stay up.

I, too, think we have a much better chance this time around - although it will still be difficult. Fundamentally, only two games let us down last time: the home defeats, during the Hinshelwood 'era', to Stoke and Grimsby. I don't think we will have a bad run like that again. Granted, Coppell managed to drag some excellent performances out of the side after he arrived, and I am not sure McGhee is quite up to that, bu a more solid season is in store - and will keep us up.

Chapmans, I take on your points about the defence but you have it way wrong with the midfield, if we dont get some new faces we are royally f***ed in the middle of the park.

I am with Chappers here especially re the defence. I think Virgo, Harding and Hinshelwood will also come good in The Championship. Our only problem will be hanging on to them.

That decent striker is badly needed though.

If we are short (ahem) of money I almost wish we would sell Leon and play Jakey with another fantastic striker.

Don't agree but what makes you think we'd see a penny of the money for players? How much of the BZ money was used on players?

How is the league much stronger this time? I keep reading this and wondering what makes it so?

This lot (after the 12 defeats and Hinsh) played like mid table candidates.

I think I might sit close to you at Withdean. If it's not you it's someone who is equally as negative and annoying who NEVER has a good word to say. Why waste your time and money going to games???

It was not this lot. Core players such as Brooker, Zamora and Ingarmarrson are not with us. Players such as Rodger and Blackwell are getting even nearer the end of their careers and coming back from serious injury. Looks very different to me.

We didn't get Ingimarsson until March.

I agree we haven't got Brooker and Zamora but according to most people they were rubbish at this level as well.
Are we looking back with rose tinted specs?
