Naylor is McGhee's puppet - in effect he writes anything and eveything the manager tells him to. (They drink together, socialise together, play golf together, you could say that they are the best of pals)

I think we can take this as McGhee getting wind that his neck might be on the block and trying to sway public opinion ahead of the axe coming down

McGhee

Is opinion against him though?, not too much anti-McGhee chanting at matches and polls nearly always sway in his favour!

Make or break season for him coming up when failure will seal his fate but success will rubber stamp his long term future at the Albion.

I think we will be ok in Div 1 but will feel the need for change if by Christmas we are not in the top half!!

get him out before he does any more irreparable damage. If i have to sit through another season like this one i might end up topping myself..

I've been anti-McGhee for ages, but now we're down I think he should stay, at least until Christmas.
He now has no excuses, so its up to him to sort it out.

I also reckon CKR will be good in Division 1 and a few of the younger players might make good progress.

Its a big season for a lot of players and the manager.

glad you used the word most cos I'min the few sensible McGhee out people. I personally don't think he is doing a good enough job and think we may have stayed up if he hadn't tinkered with the side so much. I also think his man management skills leave a lot to be desired but no doubt someone will say who is better. I have some ideas but admit they would always be a gamble.
In the end I just want to watch a team do well and if he proves me wrong next season I will admit I was wrong

All the MM out make me laugh, not one of them has offered a viable alternative to MM.

To be fair some of the outers have suggested alternaties but whether or not they're actually viable (or would even want the job) is another matter.

I think for once Naylor has it spot on.... McGhee had more than a job and a half on this season to keep us up, and while i admit we when down with a bit of a whimper i don't think all the blame can fall on McGhee's shoulders.

Some of the gambles that MM tried this season didn't work, thats football... last season they did, he also had two very important players sold in Harding and Virgo. Sure Harding wasn't the best player we saw in the stripes last season in fact on occasion he was dire and cost us a couple of games. But i feel we lost more games this season through not having a left back... and also a proper right back...i think we have lost alot of goals from poor defending in wide areas.

The lack of striker aside, player for player we just aren't good enough... i doubt anyone with this squad could have kept us up and it's a credit to all the young lads that we weren't this seasons Rotherham and effectively relegated in Feb. I'm not sure another season in this division would have done our young lads like CKR, Jakey, Gatts etc any good... maybe the drop in standard may help there development.

So although a disappointing season, we have had our bright spots.. the win at smellhurst will live long in the memory as will both games against Leeds.

Lets show the lads that will still have faith in them on sunday and hopefully come back stronger in August

A viable alternative could be any number of the applicants that apply for a vacant managers position though. Once a vacancy arises LOTS of managers would apply, as tehy did for this job the last time round. Is it the fans job to find a manager that can take this club forward? No. You CANNOT say because nobody can name one there isn't one. That's just STUPID and BLINKERED.

What an unalduterated pile of shite. Clearly knows nothing about the game, or anything else for that matter! If we keep MM for another season, or another week to be honest, then we must be idiots. He's ruined team spirit (which was one of the strongest in the country - and got us through some very tough games) he hasn't a clue which team to pick, he's tactically unaware, and does nothing to lift players when we are losing. He's done it at every club he has mismanaged, and he needs to go now, before we end up playing Stockport or Macclesfield next year.

No its not stupid or blinkered it is realistic. Coppell, Taylor and MM were all names in the hat before the previous manager had actually left. For example when we knew Coppell was going MM was talked about as a viable alternative that a lot of people thought would be a decent appointment. There currently is no one of that ilk.

I think McGhee has to go, but then I would have appointed Dowie back in 2003 (cue all the usual he would have walked after 18 months). When McGhee gets it tactically correct the results are there to see (West Ham away, Bristol City at Cardiff), but for some reason he continues tinkering and so the selection and tactics suffer and players do look lost. He man management skills leave a lot to be desired. As far as I can see if you are a player that fits into his system and way of thinking (Virgo) you are fine, but if you are a player that is a tad difficult to manage (Knight, Jarratt, Kuipers, Molango etc) you suffer. In our situation man mangement skills need to be spot on, we cannot afford to have players not involved due to the managers ego.

Regarding replacements, well advertise the job and see what applies, last time the short list included McGhee, Cotterill, Rosenior and Dowie, not bad.

I think last time there was a little money in the coffers for some compo because we recieved some from Reading...... i think this time after we pay of MM we would need to appoint someone who is jobless which kind of cuts down alot of possibilties

I am sorry, but when Coppell left us, McGhee was still employed by Millwall, so he was not even a name being banded. Cotterill and Gray were out of work, so were linked and the fact that Dowie was not working under contract at Oldham meant he was spoken about, but McGhee only came into the frame once he had left Millwall.

The only one of that short list that would have cost was Rosenior and he was not appointed.

We were never going to pay another club at the time.

We have a ready-made replacement waiting in the wings. He's served his apprentiship under the likes of Taylor, Coppell and Adams. The players love him (and actually respect him) he's a decent guy and he's albion through and through. What's more he won't cost us much to appoint. Give Bob Booker his chance.

Agree that we could and in fact should have survived this year. The reason we didn't in my opinion is because McGhee:
1. Should have decided on his best strike partnership and stuck with them for a dozen games,
2. Made too many bizarre substitutions that lost us games, and
3. Fell out with too many of his players. Leon I can forgive him for, not the others. Any "manager" who falls out with that many members of his staff is a bad manager.
