McGhee eyeing Hungarian hit-man
Friday, 16 July 2004
Brighton & Hove Albion
by Simon Fudge
Brighton & Hove Albion manager Mark McGhee may be lining up a move for Hungarian striker Zsombor Kerekes.
The tall hit-man may be seen as a replacement for the departed Chris Iwelumo, who joined German Second Division club Alemannia Aachen this week after failing to reach new terms with The Seagulls this summer.
Kerekes is thought to be looking for a club in England following stints with Hungarian club Debreceni VSC and, more recently, Chinese club Tianjin Taida.
Standing at six foot, five inches tall, Kerekes would be a big presence in Brighton's front line, should McGhee decide to sign the Eastern European marksman.
With Hungary officially entering the European Union recently, Kerekes would not need a work permit to sign a contract with a club in England, should he be offered one in the near future.
The news comes as McGhee signed influential centre back Adam Virgo to a new three-year deal while handing one-year contract extensions to Dean Hammond and Dan Beck.
David Lee and Darren Budd have also received short-term contract offers with the South Coast outfit.
