I'm sure there was an exposé at some stage which revealed that a McDonald's Caesar Salad contained more fat and calories than a hamburger with fries.

I think the one I read was a Pret a Manger Cheese and Pickle sandwich had more salt, sugar, fat and calories than a Big Mac.

Pret sandwich
534 kcal
23.7g fat
56.7g carb
2.3g salt

Big Mac
508 kcal
25g fat
43g carb
2.3g salt

McDonalds is bad for you, it's basically chemicals and sugar of the worst kind. Eating there often is bad for you. But people don't think these things catch up with them. They do when you're 55 and you have colon cancer.

That is not a view held by Royal Marsden hospital, the leading oncology hospital in the country, as my 3 year old grand daughter, as I have said before, is receiving treatment from them and the only fast food she is permitted to have is McDonalds. I dont like it particularly but wouldnt argue with Royal Marsden.

If a qualified doctor is telling you that ANYONE should be eating, for example a Happy Meal that contains the same amount of salt as 13 orders of McDonalds fries then I truly despair.

That aside, may I wish your Grand daughter the very, very best of luck in her recovery.

Although I wouldn't recommend eating McDonald's everyday, it is nowhere close to as bad as people will have you believe.

The chicken is real chicken breast, the beef is 100% beef and the amount of salt added to the fries has been greatly reduced over the years.

I worked at a Restaurant for 2 years, eating my one free meal everyday I worked, I also would often buy another meal after my shift too....I never got fat, I never felt ill and I never died a horrible McDeath!

A medium Big Mac meal is around 975 calories (if my memory serves me right), whereas a meal from an Indian Takeway is on average closer to 2000 calories.
Eat McDonalds in the same moderation that you would eat other fast food and you'll be very happy and healthy IMO.
The issue is when people eat Indians, Chinese, Pizza and Fish and Chips 5 nights a week too! :lolol:

I don't eat curry either, for that exact reason. Plus most British curries are gross. But yes, moderation is the key. Difficult with kids as you don't want to deny them things do much that they crave it when they can get it.
Although I neither have children or eat fast food so I don't really give a shit.

Perhaps I should clarify that in that they are not recommending eating McDonalds just saying if she wants fast food that is the best choice and the one that was a definite no go because it is kept warm was KFC.

Ah, I see.

Could have been one for the American market perhaps- I definitely recall the newspapers making something of it, then again they don't need much of an excuse to lay into fast food chains at the best of times.

Applebees comes to mind - the problem was that the chicken in the salad was breaded and it had a full-fat dressing on it; so it had more calories, fat and salt than their bog standard burger and chips. This was the standard salad too, no way to reduce what was in/on it.

I like the odd McDonalds, and have no problem putting some business their way considering how many times dashing in for a McShit while touching cloth has saved me from a more serious incident. That said last time I visited the pasty fat mess of a kid waddling out did put me right off. Similarly the young chunkster often to be seen in WSL demonstrating simple harmonic motion as he steams up the steps to get more shit to put in his mouth has done as much as PB to reduce my matchday consumption.

McDonalds causing colon cancer, eh? What will happen when lots of people give up McDonalds but still get colon cancer - will somebody have to invent passive McDonalds?

Don't be deliberately ignorant. Processed food is strongly linked to colon cancer, especially processed meat.

I did a big ride on Sunday and polished it off with MacDonalds.
It did occur to me, I could have done neither and still physically be up on the deal

I instantly regretted not holding out for my local Uncle Sams or even Burger King.
It really wasn't an enjoyable culinary experience to the point of being pretty much done with McD's.

If it we're for Bacon & Egg McMuffins/bagels I could almost guarantee being able to hold out.
