Didn't even vote I understand ?

Thats right, a true Londoner fighting for London's interest, in the biggest public project in the UK, probably since WW2. Boris contribution = Nil.

You reall want that man overseeing £5bn - tell me what is wrong with Ken's management of London, that your girlfriend dispises so much?

Do I want him overseeing £5bn? I think if he has the sense to get himself advisers who are leaders in their fields (irespective of their political leanings), then why not. As somebody said earlier, Ken runs London like a chief exec, whereas Boris would probably go for the Chairman of the board approach and content himself with upsetting Liverpool at regular intervals:lolol

Well he won't get my wifes vote.. she's a scouser :D

Funnily enough - the most hilarious thing about bumbling Boris's involvement in that episode was that he didn't actually write the article at all.

Unfortunately his name was on it, so he had to go up and apologise.

Why do we want to elect someone as mayor who will then go out and effectively not be mayor?

This isn't Hearts FC you know... The person who's the gaffer should be making the decisions.

Bollocks. Ken has Ken's interests at heart.

Rubbish. Tories beat Labour in Europe, in the Shires and now in London.

Wanna bet?

Really? Strange we haven't got it already. Wishful thinking LB. Once again the great and the good of the NSC liberal left talking a good fight but just wishful thinking at the end of the day.

Just need fatbadger and NMH to tell us that the public will have a Paulian conversion about Gordon Brown and sweep away the Tories at the next elections.

Yeah right. I'm sure you will. Or more likely a) you won't get to ask the question or b) a skilled and consummate politician will brush past your question easily.

Meanwhile in the real world ALL opinion polls put Boris down to winthe Tories well ahead of Labour in the polls and a lot of lemon-faced Brighton fans who can't quite move on from the Thatcher days.

Ok, close the thread, Buzzer has spoken and he is always right, I don't know why the rest of us bother.

Excuse me?

Where the f*** does that come from? This is a forum. It's called debate. I'm participating in it. Perhaps you could join in. Or carry on making fuckwitted comments. Or just f*** off. Makes no difference to me. Hope that helps.

If I was not at work I would be happy to debate, but I have been watching you cut people off, deny debate, spout crap for a few years now and you just piss me off.

The trouble with Ken is that he's done the job for too long and now assumes that he's infallible. So he does what suits him (stands for a third term after originally saying no mayor should serve for more than two terms), ignores public opinion (the huge vote against extending the con. charge westwards), gets voted in on the basis of manifestos he then ignores ("I see no reason to increase the £5 con, charge for at least ten years") and surrounds himself with vaguely criminal yes-men. The whole mayoral set-up is ludicrous - he's effectively omnipotent and can do what he (a fairly narrow-minded professional politician) chooses on the back of a pretty tiny mandate.
(Written from Havana where there are lots of Chinese-made bendy buses which work well on the wide streets with free public transport. Not quite the same as central London...)

So where haven't I debated?

The first 3 pages from what I can see. Your posts there are your usual pro-Tory rant which paints NSC as some socialist propaganda machine, not just a bunch of people (at least those in this thread) who largely have centrist/left-wing politics.

If you think you're such a great debater, then debate the issues, don't throw around accusations that people blindly hate the Tories or are dogmatically left-wing - it does you no credit.

Ken

Has the interests of ordinary Londoners at heart.

So successful in defending ordinary Londoners during the Thatcher Years that the vindictive bitch had to have the Greater London Council made defunct.

Hated by Thatcher. Hated by Blair. Must have been doing something VERY right.

Best (living) conviction politician of his generation

Spot on.

I genuinely CANNOT believe how close the poll is, both on here and in the papers. How does Boris Johnson even get close to such a position of authority???

It's times like this I wish I hadn't cancelled my Private Eye subscription (after their ludicrously biased badly researched piece on the Falmer plans).

Johnson could only succeed in making a total laughing stock of our nations capital. Now I'm no London fan but I wouldn't wish that buffoon on anyone. Seriously, I am absolutely GOBSMACKED. How, in all genuine honesty, can anyone consider that mans credentials. I really REALLY want to know.

Please, somebody enlighten me. It's like having Ken Dodd take over from Kofi Annan

However, as you don't live in London and don't actually have a vote...

But aren't we supposed to care about the Nsc commuters and trains in Hassocks?

Has he done it for too long?

Managing London after years of total neglect - remember the shit hole London was in the mid 80's - is a long term project.

He standing for a third term because he now believes, he needs more time, the good thing about Ken he admits to changing his opionon on matters.

He is coming into this election with a clear manisfesto to raise the congestion charge as he did last time, if people don't want, they won't vote for him. That's the Poll that matters.

What was this poll againgst the Congestion charge - no official poll/election was undertaken and even if there was, we are talking london here, not a small enclave, that believes it is exempt from causing congestion, fumes, pollution and disruption.

The point is these advisors, are not yes men, far from it. Only one is seen as "criminal" in the Evening Standard campaign. Funny that the Met have requested evidence - none forthcoming! However, the way he had conducted himself in a public office is not up to the standard I would expect.
That's the best I can say on here.

Tiny mandate? This is perverse, the winner of this election receives the biggest mandate of any election in Europe, it beats the PM by 10x or something ridicolous.

What does saddens me, is that few people on here who has posted for Boris can actually tell me what he has actually achieved, what he has achieved for LOndon and will achieved for LOndon?

I can quite easily highlight the benefits of Ken and even restrict down to Hackney - my borough - and East London.

The City has changed for the better under Ken, more than any other politician of any party would have achieved, and it is because he has a vision which he implements.

I do not want loads of national party politicios from Smith Square or Labour HQ running London.
