Mayor of London...a cunning ruse?

I read in an article yesterday that Boris's chief of staff is none other than Nick Boles(former candidate for Hove who LOST... to Celia Barlow!!!!). Now from what I remember, he was due to be Tory candidate until he pulled out for health reasons.

Now this may just be me being cynical, but perhaps he will be the man of power(behind the scenes anyway). He was a fairly modern Tory(openly gay) and perhaps they realised he wouldn't be able to win over certain areas of Outer London. Either that or he expected to lose therefore backed down but now Boris has won, the party want him back at the helm!

To be honest, he seemed alright the one time I met him. The fact Boris is keeping on Blair, Hendy and O'Toole seems to imply for now there won't be any great shakeups..

I think the real reason that Boris is not having a complete clear out straight away is because he feels that in all things are not to bad. He will get to know what is really going on, and only then will he start making changes.

It's a very good theory. I would expect Nick Boles -- provided he has fully recovered -- to be an MP after the next election anyway.

The Mayor doesn't have the power to hire or fire the Met Commissioner, by the way. Only the Home Secretary does that.

Which makes for a lot of fun with Sir Ian Blair. Apparently he was ashen faced when he found out that Boris had won. This was a man who tried to get Boris arrested for pinching a cigarette holder from the Iraqis (?). Best described as not particularly close buddies.

According to the Times this morning, Nick Boles will just be an interim chief of staff for a few months. It says Boris is looking to appoint loads of his own people, including a "senior broadcaster" as press secretary.

I am hereby ruling myself OUT.

Isn't this supposed to fund police to stop crime? What does that mean will go from the TFL communication budget, no more leaflets about Bank/Monument?
