A bit gutted too. I realise that many of our development squad will ultimately be moved on without getting into the first team - but 'nominal fee' doesn't augur well for the sustainability model.

Well obviously we have to sell players for a nominal fee to build ourselves up as a selling club so we can ask for more money next time, right?

Probably a good indicator of how well the academy has done. It now appears that we are producing players of considerable talent and, other than loan deals, we are going to get times when some just have to leave to develop their careers and make room for others. It is obviously the way of the world for the top sides that have been doing this for years.
Good luck to the lad. I always look out for our ex players and watch with a sense of BHA pride that they have been at our club.

No disrespect to you all, I must be not as interested in football as you 3, or I’m a bad fan.
Gutted isn’t a word I would use because a young Albion footballer I’ve never seen play has gone to another team where hopefully he will play every game.

I always think it’s gutting to see a young talented Sussex lad not get a chance to break in to the first team. Especially when if he had came through our youth team a decade ago we’d be heralding him as one the best players we’ve ever produced.

It’s sad to see him go, but the young options we have in midfield are some of the best in the country. Moder, Caicedo, Bissouma, Alzate, Molumby & Jenks is a frankly ridiculous level of potential and it’s only fair that the club let him go and chase his career. As long as we have a big sell on percentage then I think everyone should be happy with this deal.

Good move for him. This time next year he should be in the Championship with Lincoln. If he can handle it in that league he's got a great career ahead of him.

The nominal fee a reflection of the dire finances of FL clubs - no-one has any money to spend as the Jan window has demonstrated.

We can't just keep collecting players. Sanders isn't a youth player any more. We owe it to our youngsters to find them a decent club, (like Lincoln) if they aren't going to be ready to play in the PL in the short term.

Also, some will go on to play at the highest level. It won't mean we were wrong to sell them. They wouldn't have got there without the pathway

Exactly. It's not like we're Chelsea, getting rid of De Bruyne, Lukaku, Salah and Rice. Sanders needs games and he's not getting them here. This gives him some security.

Always looked decent enough, but as someone pointed out the other day, is the same age as Mac and should be breaking in by now. Similar with Molumby. Hope it doesn’t bite us, but it’s part of football to give players opportunities elsewhere if they’re not gonna play for us. All the best Max.

Correct. If we can't give these lads a game, then they have to move on. At 22 years of age, Sanders has to be past the 'promising / potential' stage of his career. He needs to be playing regular first team football, or his career will pass him by. I like the look of him, and hope he does well, but it wasn't going to happen here. Not when we have players 2 or 3 years younger looking every bit as good.

Demonstrating a willingness to be fair with young players in his situation, and helping them to find decent clubs, (despite what a couple have suggested) actually IS part of the sustainable academy model. The reputation you build in the game, for how you look after people, has a strong bearing in young players' decisions, when deciding which academy to sign for.

The sell-on is key when we let such players go, because we'll never get significant transfer fees for them. The sell-on is the safety net, for any that we just might get badly wrong.
But in truth, how many HAVE we got wrong? For example, there is a thread on here, with many expressing similar disappointment when Jordan Maguire-Drew was allowed to leave.

I think the only two we have let go, in the last decade or so, who must have a few a the club wondering about the call they made, are Anders Dreyer, who has put in eye-catching performances in the Champions League this year for Midtylland, and Mathias Normann, who is doing well in Russia and has become a full Norway international.

Probably at the club at the wrong time unfortunately, looked a great prospect but never really getting some game time.

More concerned about our finances so that's another one off the wage bill at least this window!

Let's hope he's not another Steve Cook. But yes, we can't keep everyone.

Another Steve Cook? While he has had a fabulous career at the top levels of English football - he is no better than any regular CB we have had since we got rid of him and the fact he is back in the Championship now without moving on says this.

At the time we had plenty of cover in that space now that offering him first team football was very difficult. Similar to Sandars I guess

Another Steve Cook? While he has had a fabulous career at the top levels of English football - he is no better than any regular CB we have had since we got rid of him and the fact he is back in the Championship now without moving on says this.

More to the point, is that had Cook NOT left when he did, then with so many better players ahead of him, he would never have developed into the player he did, at the rate he did.

He'd likely just have left for nothing a year or two later, and his career would have suffered.

Steve Cook is the perfect example of why Sanders moving to Lincoln is the RIGHT decision.
