It was reactionary. Red mist etc after the cynical Hourinhane (sic) cheat move on DP. Personally not bothered about that...just illustrates that he gave a bit of a toss.

Andone, for example, on the other hand is a calculated violent thug that, in the calmest of moments, will jab his elbow in to someones jaw to rough them up or go over the top of the ball almost seemingly on purpose. In a var world you're asking to get sent off.

He was targeted by the Villa players and his gallic red mist came out. He has to learn from this, he cut a very frustrated figure this afternoon.

The ref did not control Villa’s thuggery and therefore they ramped it up. I suggest there may have been some pisstaking after his miss in the last minute and he snapped. Not condoning it but the ref takes responsibility for losing control of the match imo.

As poor as Andy Madley's refereeing was yesterday, (and he was very poor indeed), you really can't totally blame him for Maupay's reaction. Despite the Villa players incitement, the player really should know better than to act in the way that he did.

The ref booked a Villa player early first half and comments amongst the old men in EU was that the ref was now under pressure to book every foul. Sadly he didn't and I think he did slightly lose control.

As poor as Andy Madley's refereeing was yesterday, (and he was very poor indeed), you really can't totally blame him for Maupay's reaction. Despite the Villa players incitement, the player really should know better than to act in the way that he did.

OK, I’ll rephrase it - The ref takes some responsibility due to losing control, Maupay was too hotheaded and should not have reacted like he did. Would not have come to that though if the ref had stopped the thuggery from the off.

I'd love to know a refs opinion of what they would/could do if they heard it. foul and abusive language is a bookable offense or a sending off . . . . yesterdays ref was poor. having said that we were weak in many areas. Mings bullied all and sundry, fairly, on the whole, we had no answer, the rest of the VIlla donkeys just kept getting away with it, all 3 of our bookings were schoolboy stuff. that was the difference.

That was why - we don't listen to old men in the EU any more. Leave means Leave, apparently.
