Don't think you can blame Maupay or anybody up front today as we created so little. A couple of Trossard free kicks and that was it.

If they don’t move they won’t get the ball.
Gross went backwards time after time because Maupay was stationary.

Maupay did not contribute much but had sympathy. The players Gross,Moder.Mac and Lalana never got near him to support

Jeez. Feel for Neil. He had nothing to get hold of and dropped deep to support abd worked hard. He is reliant on supply of which there was nothing.

Maupay was on his own, in a back to the future team set-up seen under both CH and GP, of a not the tallest striker up against two towering CB’s.

Compare and contrast. Calvert-Lewin had the close support throughout of Townsend, Richarlison and Gray. Almost a front 4 when the team received the ball anywhere on the pitch.

What an incredible luxury, compared to the zero support for Maupay or later Welbeck.

Yep Neil gets a rough time on here but he is only as good as the chances he’s offered. Today he was offered nothing.

Maupay us so pivotal to our side, when he plays well we play well. He was poor today, you could forgive him for being distracted by attention from higher suitors. Let's protect him for all he's worth until Wednesday and get him back to his sublime best.

Occasionally I think you aren't taking the piss. This isn't one of those occasions.

But even if he's never sublime, he's alright.

“A yard short” sums up every outfield Albion player, bar Bissouma. Or ten metres short in the case of Gross.

Yes. We got roughed up by Big Boys today, pushing, being fast, being big....dare not read the match thread because it will be a mix of moist nightware and bw3 asking YOYdon'twesingeaprooooovenstriker.com :shootself

He received the ball four times in the box second half to slow against better quality defenders so disagree about the chances not coming his way he fluffed them all. Pickford spilled twice not even close even our Glenn would of pounced on the first one.

So its "blame Neal" time eh...

:ffsparr:

Had a decent game. Good shot and linked up to multiple attempts. One of the best out there today, IMO.

Not blaming Neal.

It’s the one-dimensional way Potter deploys him that is at fault.

Actually thought he played alright today. Linked play fairly well in the first half.

Is that watching on TV or attending? His movement was poor IMO and this type of thing just does not come across on TV.

I realise he’s one of your favourites, but to receive the ball you have to make space and he was flat footed throughout. My favourite player is Gross and he had a shocker as well.

He did. Maupay didn't. Duffy really did, not that the vast majority would have noticed. Beyond his sideways passes to his fellow CBs, he gives the ball away. Every single time.

One of the first times Maupay started to move and provide an angle was when Welbeck came on, he was static at times. In the first half Gross went backwards 90% of the time because Maupay made no angle for him at all. One good shot from distance.

He was a yard off the pace, even when Pickford fumbled he hadn’t reacted quickly enough. It was a poor day for him, a lot of our fans seem very protective of him.

Agree re Duffy, (almost looked like he got under most things, as he was wary of DCL), we don’t expect him to pass well, still Dunk wasn’t the best passing wise either.

Edit - just seen your player ratings…. Mystifying [emoji23];. Seriously, all opinions, I thought Trossard didn’t turn up until half-time, but offered more than Maupay. (Think they’re your favourites - have got you on Maupay and Trossard watch) [emoji6][emoji2]

Vestergaard is a man mountain. At just under 2m tall, he dwarves most opponents, he is not a bean pole either, he is a stacked giant.

This makes it all the more enjoyable seeing little brave Maupay firstly anchor him down (tugging at his giant arm with the both tiny hands) and secondly have the balls to stick the subsequent penalty away.
