Maybe he should think more about doing his talking on the pitch and not on social media.

There's a post on the match thread saying specifically that they hate Maupay.

Ali J doesn't fare much better. Nor does Connolly. The abuse is all over the match thread. Not saying that they want them to die doesn't make it any less abusive.

It's pathetic.

Do you mean on NSC match thread

Thanks vagabond, that’s where I am,. If I was being subjected to abuse, I’d just use the option to make my account private....

Its always easier said that done though, isn't it. Like with anything in life. We all have a curious and insecure psych within us. If you're in the media spotlight in the most famous football league in the world, I imagine it must be pretty hard to not read what people are saying about you.

Some of you on here are suggesting he/other footballers make their accounts private.

You're missing the point - they shouldn't have to

I've had people call me a **** to my face in my job for what he gets paid in a a week.

Put the chances away from 2 yards out that I'd expect my 9 year old to put away and you might get people saying how great you are.

You useless shite.

This, Pav. It's always the best way for a player to silence critics.

As it stands, Maupay is currently a striker who doesn't strike.

Whilst that doesn't excuse abuse, criticism is certainly valid.

No, that’s not the point.

Of course they shouldn’t have to. We all agree on that. That’s obvious. But putting the horrific racist abuse to the side. Why do you need to have people dm’ing you noise 24/7. “You were shit today”, “you don’t care about our club”, “we don’t like you”, “you should have passed to Trossard today”.... whatever.

I don’t see that much upside having access to that kind of noise. I question if it’s worth having that as an elite player.

The abuse comes from across the globe against footballers and other celebs. They might be Albion fans, rival fans lying, simply racists or cowardly trolls. An army of tossers sitting there all day typing hate against the McCann’s, Prince Philip, George Floyd, Caroline Flack, just about anyone.

The platforms do little about it.

Given that something’s are out of your control, arrange your social media use so that you don’t get to see the hate. Unless you have the skin of a rhino.

Lots of ***** here.

According to the demographics thread it will solve itself.

Online, not really. He's posted a vague, looking-forward-to-the-game style graphic tonight. About the most deviant thing he's posted in recent memory is a photo of himself walking along the seafront.

It's a privilege that, say, one of us nerds can ask Zamora what his favourite goal was tomorrow and have a decent chance of being directly told by the man himself. I thought it was a bit of a joke that none of the players popped their heads above the virtual parapet when they were shit under Hyypia, but the illusion that an elite athlete owes an explanation to us outside of normal circumstances is entitled bollocks. Maupay does not owe an irate teenager or angry middle-aged man an explanation.

You’ve only got to look at some of the replies to that tweet (a couple from Arsenal fans stand out) to see the abuse doesn’t just happen on their own accounts but comes across all social media and accounts even when it’s posted by other media outlets, the club etc. Players making their own accounts private won’t stop the abuse.

I’m not on Twitter, but can’t you prevent replies or only receive them from ‘trusted’ accounts or ‘friend’?

Not arguing with you as I like to think the NSC community would all be on the same page.....

I just don’t know re the Twitter parameters.

If that is the case, (whilst they shouldn’t have to be), they need to be mentally stronger.....

I have a few people on ignore and don’t look at their posts despite having the option to.

I understand that and said it in my first post, but the point remains - there are insensitive morons out there and keyboard warriors, if you can prevent something why wouldn’t you?

I like Maupay. He definitely appears to be on the intelligent end of the footballers spectrum. And I do feel sorry for the abuse he gets. It's a shame he doesn't seem to be quite as intelligent on the pitch.
