Their record signing was Hirving Lozano (who played and- I think- scored in the last World Cup) for £35 million), therefore it would seem highly improbable that they are considering forking out more than that for a Premier League striker with seven top flight goals to his name. They may have a lot of revenue, but I bet they also have debts.

I love Le Petit Shithouse, by the way, and I'd like to think he'll be with us for a while.

I wasn’t suggesting the story had any legs whatsoever, merely questioning the assertion that Napoli couldn’t afford £40m.

Just wow at the hate for Maupay here.

The lad has done fantastic as far as I’m concerned. 7 goals in his debut PL season is a great return for a club like us. And he still has another half the season left.

Look at the variety of goals he’s scores. Long range, precise headers, left foot, right foot.

I think he’s a good character as well.

£20m? That’s been a bargain as far as I’m concerned. £40 million would not turn my head with Premiership revenue on the line.

The 'players are chattels' contingent are On FIRE. Fact.

Good point. We wouldn't get £40m for him if we were a Championship club - cash in now.

I do hope you've been on a strict irony diet since Christmas, or I may have to get you sectioned :wave:

Surely I'm not the only one who would drive him there myself for £40m?

Yep and I think you’d struggle to get enough crowd funding to even pay for the petrol.

What sort of industry is this where we pay £20m for striker, he scores 7 goals in 5 months and his value doubles???

No criticism of Maupay at all. If we have a half decent striker we need to hold on to him as replacing him would be nigh on impossible.....

The increase in value is actually quite logical.

We signed a striker who although had a good Championship record was completely unproven in the Premier League.

Once said asset proves to be a viable commodity at top level (7 goals for a bottom 6 club midway through the season) naturally their value increases. Also his age gives good re-sale value.

All the talk of selling our strikers has hacked me off.

And any talk of each incoming striker is met with *Naylor Says No* or *Owen quotes 'chances are very, very slim'*.

Yes, let's sell, sell, sell them all.

Who has shown any hate for him?

I certainly haven't, principally because I don't hate him.

But I don't see him as a £40m player which is why I've loaded the car up with Starburst and mint imperials. But I'd only let him into my car if a replacement had been bought.

You'd want a replacement car for driving to Naples and back? Seems a tad excessive. :D

They can afford him, but it's an unliley fee. Their annual income is similar to ours, and I can't see us spending 40m anytime soon.

Depends if we had a decent replacement lined up. If you sell your key striker for £40m without a replacement in place, it just means that selling clubs jack their prices up for you because they know you have to buy - we wouldn't see the benefit in selling at over the odds.

Personally I think it would be a strategic error to sell anyone we want to keep, White, Dunk, Maupay any of them. Whatever money we get wouldn't be enough to find an adequate replacement and cover the increased relegation risk. I'd be surprised if we do

The only exception I can see if we already have a replacement, we know is at the same level. The Maguire Soyuncu, scenario. I'd say this is pretty rare though

Assuming there's a grain of truth in this, would Maupay be interested in signing for Napoli ?

Yup. I think he'd jump at it.
