Maty has served us well throughout our Prem years as a fans' favourite, remember his sprints during our goal celebrations.

That said, Robert has been a massive upgrade on him this season and Maty has obtained that move he pined for, it's working out well for us. Throwing him into the mud isn't really the best course of action, even though his previous comments after his transfer were quite uncalled for.

I wish him well.

A lot of posters new to NSC seem to have appeared as they have no understanding on how we work.

We're the classless fans STILL punching down on Sheffield' Wednesday.
Anyone who thinks there won't be posters still smugging out on Ryan in 10 years time is sadly mistaken.

Sad and true.

But not all of us, or even most of us. Hopefully.

I hope you were being facetious/ironic. It's very hard to tell from the written word. Especially with my shortcomings in the 'reading people' department. That's a statement of fact and not me mucking about, btw.

Nothing to see here in that quote really - he has to believe that. That said, I never thought he was any better than ‘fairly solid’ (certainly not a ‘fans favourite’ with me). He rarely made a special save, and is not a patch on Big Bob. It’s no coincidence we’ve suddenly started keeping clean sheets since Big Bob got between the sticks - he oozes calm, dominates his box, and I know which keeper I’d sooner play in front of. So world class? Not for me, Clive.

Agreed. Always went in the crowd and stayed behind. Reminded me of Stockdale. Yes, Maty has said / done some silly things on shitty social media, but let’s not have fans turning on him or having short memories - exactly as they did with Stockdale funnily enough!

Well said.

Are we the fickle ones though? Yes Maty was very good for us and good luck to him in his dream move to his beloved Arsenal. But something about this move just ain't right and the repercussions it has thrown up. He was good for us, no doubt but he always had his doubters about his ability even through the good times. Replaced by a rookie goalie he was told he could find another club. Now all of a sudden he is world class looking to replace another world class keeper. Why didn't he want to fight for his place here to prove the doubters wrong?. It must be far easier to ease out a rookie against a worldie keeper. Perhaps the prize wasn't big enough here, who knows but all seems very strange to me. An Arsenal mate of mine rates Ryan but only as a back up keeper.

Perhaps, MR is an international who wants/needs game time and the Albion made it clear to him on the second occasion he was dropped that Sanchez has the jersey?

Arsenal offered a temporary lifeline, so why not take it, especially at a far bigger club? Since then Leno’s been making clangers and MR feels encouraged to make it permanent.

Time to close this thread and move on now Shirley. At the end of the day Maty served us well for three seasons, helped establish the Albion in the Premier League, so more than done his bit as far as l'm concerned.

Yes ok, so he said a few silly things on scoial media, and has moved on to who he sees as a bigger club, but that was his prerogative l guess. Players are largely just employees, we can't expect them to be fans of the team that they play for

We are now left with who many see as a superior goalkeeper anyway, so why the fuss? Let's all put this stupid feud to bed, and get on with our season.

Agree entirely with this.

Think some of the comments on this thread are so embarrassing I thought I'd accidentally signed on to WACCOE!!

Where has all the hate come from Brighton. He was one of our most loved players or so I thought. He hasn’t screwed us over by asking for a move in mid January leaving us with goalkeeping problems. We moved him on, he was dropped to 3rd choice keeper and got a great move.

People are so bitter over absolutely nothing.

It's "Bandwagon hating" and is very disappointing really :nono:

We might be rubbish at buying strikers

But we do know how to buy a good keeper at the right time , and know when it’s time to move them on

Silly old bat
World class he ain't, but he was good enough for us FFS, even had a great song chanted for him.
Some Albion fans are very fickle :lolol:

How do you define world class? He played for Australia in the World Cup in Russia.

It's a statement of fact that includes my very worst trait on NSC which is to collectivise us.

I'm terrible for protraying us as some kind of Borg hive mind, which despite being wrong, the clear.pattern is always there for all to see, making it a hard habit to kick.

Whether it be Ryan getting hated despite the Albion clearly winning across every single aspect of his entire time with us, and beyond.

Barnes being the greatest striker ever, who never should have left, when he scores one of his 5 goals a season.

Or this week.
Great win v Leeds.
Excellent team performance.
Inspiring individual performances.
Safe from relegation.
1 point behind palace.

We all knowno what that means 5 minutes after the final whistle:-

The hive mind of NSC finds a spurious reason to stick the boot into Maupay - again.

Classless, joyless, mung beans.

Bandwagon hating is fantastic.

Maty Ryan is first class person and a very good keeper with a different skill set to Robert Sanchez. Maty was amazing with the young supporters particularly those with serious life threatening illness. To say he is a crybaby is somewhat immature behaviour from some of our supporters. I’m pleased that he is playing for Arsenal a big step up from us. How many of our (not good enough) keepers in the past gone to a bigger club? Can’t think of any perhaps Mark Beeney.

It would be nice if a mod could remove #Crybaby part from the thread title.

As supporters it makes us look very ungrateful to a player who was a loyal servant. It also completely lacks class.
I'm embarrassed to see the thread title when I open NSC.

No, it should be left there as a reminder that a club, as inclusive as Brighton, attracts knobs like any other club...
