Think he is an okay keeper- bottom of Prem/ top of Champo

Does not command the box and poor kicker

agree. It can't help him having to play with a different back 4/5 every week. Probably should have saved that goal yesterday

Yes. I mean I wouldn’t start with him with the rebuilding but he’s not served Potter as well as he did Hughton

I don’t know where it went wrong for Ryan, but he isn’t near the player he was at the start of the season.

I'm happy to blame Webster for not closing down Sterling if you like?

I'll go along with that . . . And the fact Ryan layed down slowly with his hands in his poCkets, as opposed to diving/stretching with a hand out

He may be our No1 . . . And he's not bad, but I think he's off form, due to complacency , he needs competition.

1st goal - a taller keeper might have stretched to reach it
2nd - pathetic challenge by Webster, barnardo switches off and appeals for offside - naive or not good enough?

I’ve come around to realising he’s not good enough this season. He doesn’t make big mistakes that attract a lot of attention and criticism, but it seems like a huge proportion of the goals we concede leave me thinking a good PL keeper would be doing better. There are far too many shots that aren’t quite in the corners he fails to reach and he definitely has a flaw with shots hit across him and high into the net. He’s done a job for us and he’s not a bad player, but sadly at this level he’s got to be replaced now.

Can’t disagree with that plus his distribution is iffy, often knocking the ball straight out

Most 'keepers wouldn't have saved the first in slow motion, let alone full speed.

The second was just poor all round.

I really should stop checking this thread. Always the same suspects undermining the qualities of Ryan.

Unfortunately there are some undermining qualities that he has that have come to light.

He's great at reflex saves but is beaten from distance far to often .Doesn't come for the ball in the air to give the defence a break.

His in one of the positions the Albion need to strengthen. IMO

I think the problem with corners is he doesn't command his 6 yard box so all our defenders are on the goal line inviting pressure.
Every corner the opposition get I think they will score

I just can’t remember the last time I thought. “Wow what a save”.

It may seem harsh but this is the Premier League, it’s ruthless and we want to progress as a club. You can’t let a goal in every time there’s a half decent effort on target.

(For those who can’t take criticism: this is based on the whole season, not tonight)

Exactly this. Not many howlers but a lot of goals this season that a better keeper might have saved - such as Sheff Utd away, Palaces winner, Villa home, and I struggle to recall many match saving performances this season. Good servant over our 3 years, but I'm not sure he'd get into many of our rivals teams.
