Must have impressed the Ipswich scouts when they saw him play down here as he's involved with the first-team squad tomorrow for the first time in ages.

Of the four players we probably won't see again, he has the biggest future, imho.

I didn't see his (Rents') performance, but it has been a long while since we have had a decent left back and I truly feel thatwe should make Richards a signing at all costs. Unfortunately, this latest news will give him hope of anIpswich berth, although he is clearly third choice.

I hope Rents can kick on. From what I have seen he is great going forward but tends to get muscled off the ball.

Hate to say it but Rents was abysmal against Millwall. Nothing against him, but at the moment he just isn't ready for this level. Every time the ball went down that wing he looked vunerable and I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to give him another start. To be fair to him he was receiving very little support from Robinson in front of him (who had an even worse game), but he needs to toughen up a bit before he's in with a shout of a place. Agree, Matt Richards is missed after just one game.

Rents is dropped for months, then torn to pieces for having a poor game when everyone else did too. This board never changes.

Is it only me who can remember when we first signed Richards how crap most people on here thought he was and questioned the loan deal when we already had Rents????

Agreed. The whole side played badly at Millwall. Yes, Rents got caught out a couple of times, but the whole back four did. I thought he looked nervous and the kind of shit that's spouted on here will only exacerbate the problem.

he needed help but it wasn't there. Sometimes, having been out for so long, you can try a little too hard too impress and thus not play your normal game.

Defence needs Butt's experince at the mo.

I see the situation with Richards being very similar to that of Andrew Whing last season and we signed him in the end, So i'm not giving up hope yet.

I seem to remember the first few times Richards played for us he was absolutely ripped apart on here, people couldn't understand why he was playing ahead of Rents. Now, after he adjusted to playing for us, he has shown that actually he is not such a bad player.

Rents has played his first game with the first team for ages and now he is not good enough. Maybe, just maybe, like Richards, he may take a couple of games to get back in the swing of things.

I am fairly certain that, if in a couple of weeks we sign another left back, there will be people on here claiming there is no need to sign him cos we've got Rents.

I also recall a lot of why isn't Rents playing instead of Richards.

While Rents looks a good prospect, he is not at present in the class of Richards and struggled greatly yesterday.

Also one of the reasons we had been passing the ball so much better is that this requires full backs to be confident and composed on the ball. Richards is just that, while in the past, Mayo certainly hasn't (hence the chip down the line).

At present I think Rents is somewhere in between, but we haven't looked as comfortable on the ball since Richards left.

To me, Richards was as instrumental as O'Callaghan in our good performances and improved passing.
