Just got back from Oz. Was pretty much gobsmacked that the ladies team, who are doing pretty damn good as it happens, just beat Brazil over both legs of their tie in the Women's World Cup. Even more surprised that instead of being called the Soccerettes, they're called (wait for it) The Matildas :lol:

What? Why not 'The Sheilas'?

Also because the Oceania group consisted of countries like Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Tahiti, all tiny islands that gave them no preparation when it came to playing against decent opposition..

New Zealand managed it a few years back and were the only unbeaten side in the World Cup (playing against 'decent' opposition)

Matilda was the mascot for the Commonwealth Games in 1982.
