Such a bunch of babies on here. Get over it, it's football, it's gutting but these things happen. It's nothing to do with Crawley as a club, a town, or really all that much to do with Williams. Just one of those crappy things that happen from time to time. We've been on the receiving end and we've had players dishing it out in the past.

cant argue with a single word of this.
Really?

What about the part that says O'Riley's injury does not have 'much to do with Williams' :dunce:

What absolute nonsense.

yeah, I don't think Williams has a huge list of victims (who have suffered long term injuries) but correct me if I am wrong. It happens in contact sports.
The number of cards he receives each season tells you something.

Too cool for school eh? Why would you want to join in on a message board full of babies?

Injuries where a player is out for a significant chunk of the season like this are inevitable. I reckon most clubs have 2-3 every year - we certainly do. Insurance companies exist to make money, so the insurance premiums to cover an entire squad would have to be more than the cost of paying the 3 players' wages and amortisation charges while they're injured.

Players may well have personal insurance to cover loss of earnings if their careers are ended, but I'm not sure about clubs. There was certainly nothing in the accounts to indicate a pay out when Mwepu was forced to retire, just a multi-million write down of his value as an asset.
It may have changed now, but players insurance with the PFA does cover injuries, but not illnesses. I remember John Piercy was quite bitter than he had to give up playing because of colitis, but received nothing.

Except that if you look for any clips of Jay Williams playing, this seems to be his entire game. He's in the team -- captaining the team -- with a remit to cause serious injuries to opposition players.

Maybe that doesn't tell us anything about the town, but it does tell as a lot about the club, its leadership, and its fans.

Exactly, when you consider another Crawley player received a red card.

Nah....comparable to Moises Caicedo and nobody on here called him anything until he 'did the dirty'.

Williams 116 matches 30 yellow cards
Caicedo last 119 matches 30 yellow cards.
Bissouma 124 Brighton Matches 31 yellow cards.

Does it?

In what world would ANY League One team, including Brighton in the past, have their fans turn against their own team because their midfield captain tackles too hard?

So what? We just had to deal with it. Loads of clubs have and have had 'enforcers'. They're a legend if they're on your team, my memory isn't good enough but I bet we've had a few in the past who we liked not because of their silky skills but because they ruffled the opposition. Sometimes they go too far, but most of the time they do their job. If they didn't, they wouldn't be there.

I'm as gutted as anyone for O'Riley and what we're going to miss. I just think lots of comments on this thread are a massive overreaction and are forgetting what lower league football is like sometimes.

File it under the category of 'annoying'

Watched it back several times. It's a RUBBISH tackle but he was just completely done by a much quicker player which happens when teams X amount of divisions apart play each other. It happens.

"This hard man of football would be booked once every 6 hours" isn't quite as damning as people are making out, is it.

Yellow cards are given out for different reasons. Moises never goes in like Williams did. And he didn't get even a yellow for it.

It's a tackle. He a tackling midfielder whose job it was to disrupt us. I don't think his job was to seriously injure one of our players, he just got that wrong. He did it, but that doesn't in my view justify the meltdown on here about him as a player and his character. It's just a tackle that went wrong.

We've had a go at plenty of our players. Not sure I remember any deliberately injuring someone though.
