stayed at southampton despite interest from bigger clubs......had he left he may have won more england caps and silverware

so is he a good example of LOYALTY or UNAMBITION?

I'm going for the cliche "A level of loyalty you don't see from many players anymore" - despite being at Saints (over one of the "big 4") he still got into the England squad a few times

Fantastic skill but always looked a little slow and had the Chris Waddle walk that made him look uninterested at times.

Lazy and lacking ambition or belief, no idea which but he would have had a far better career if he'd moved from the perennial relegation dodgers to a big club.

A bit of both - but a third thing, quality of life, was a big factor for Le Tissier.

In today's money his options were, say £2million a year at Saints, or £3million a year somewhere else. He thought £2m was a very good living, he could live in the New Forest (who wouldn't), get back to the Channel Islands very easily, and not just play but star in the top flight for the team he most wanted to play for...so the grass wasn't greener. Not everybody sees that.

The Le Tissiers are a large Guernsey family ( brother Carl was on Southampton's books for a while). They are good cricketers and golfers as well as footballers. Southampton was his local club, he could fly home in 25 mins. It was much more to do with that than anything else.

There were two other le tissier brothers, both fell out of interest with the game I believe, and both were apparently better than Matt.

No-one would argue that he wasn't the hardest working player around, but for the 10 minutes of brilliance he would frequently produce, he could be excused the other 80 minutes.
