Friend that day was a DISGRACE - admittedly, the score should have finished about 7-4 to Liverpool but he was so bad, so biased, so inept.

Regardless, he has been WRONG several times on VAR for and against other sides. And still they give him the gig. He was the one who told the ref why he should overturn the second penalty against Utd which he isn't supposed to do. He has been VAR on quite a few of the ones that have subsequently been ruled as wrong.

The nickname is used by Brighton fans with bitter sarcasm, as it was first used by a Bournemouth fan on one of their forums. She said 'Always happy to see Hoops (my italics) on an AFCB match', shortly before he gave this as a penalty for them against us:

Putting aside his idiotic VAR performance in the Man U game earlier this season, when he went against all guidance and told the ref viewing pitchside why he thought he should change the decision and not award Connolly a penalty, Hooper hasn't been particularly bad for the Albion since, but he has always been very good for Bournemouth.

Googling 'How often are penalty kicks awarded?' gives an answer of 21.05% per match. If you assume that this splits 50/50 to each team, Hooper's record of awarding against Bournemouth's opponents is an absolutely average 10.5%. His record of awarding penalties to Bournemouth sees this 10.5% chance for a penalty to any team increase to 47.37% for Bournemouth. Stats of course do not show the whole story, but it is easy to see why the fans of an opponent of the Cherries wouldn't be so keen to see his name attached to a game against them.

Wrongly awarded us..but then should have given us a penalty for the foul on Murray ..but gave a corner which it wasn’t as it came off Murray...from which we got our second

Friend has surprised me in recent matches with his relative competence compared to previous seasons and other Prem refs. Hooper, on the other hand, is woefully incompetent and cannot make a correct decision even after watching an incident 20 times. I would love to listen in on his thought process each time he goes against the blindingly obvious decision staring him in the face.

Even all these years later, I can still see that tackle and then his woeful decision -the ONLY person in the stadium to see anything wrong -even the "offended" player didn't appeal. Quite unbelievable and to think that he still attracts criticism and continues to be entrusted with matches at the highest standard.

Watching it back, I noticed Liam Bridcutt's lazy attempt at a tackle on half way and half-hearted jog back. This was the beginning of January 2014, his last month with us before his move to Sunderland. His down-tools at that time still riles.
