People being given a tenner a day to try and get by on and absolute shambles with whoever is running the relief operation and Hammond just denying it despite one of the helpers in the studio saying how it is

So the terrible fire is Theresa Mays fault ! If Corbyn had won the general election would it still be Mays fault or would it be Jeremy Corbyns??

What she has done since the fire has been abysmal and beyond defence so go away with your righty rubbish

I hope that a few of these poor souls for whom I have every sympathy, have been temporarily housed at ENREST Towers.

The Fire wouldn't have occurred if Jeremy was pm .

Being a bit facetious there carl -

For decades now, first Thatcher, the the Blairites and then the Tories implemented policies that have resulted in the decimation of public services. In particular the Tories bear direct responsibility for this fire. After the Lakanal House fire a series of recommendations were made that if implemented would have possibly prevented the fire or at the very least sinpgnificantly reduced the deadly impact of the fire. Greg Barnwell, the Tory housing minister who lost his seat in the election and is now Theresa May's chief of staff, sat on the report and never implemented the recommendations. In 2013 Boris Johnson closed 19 fire stations and cut 550 fire fighters from the workforce. And when a fire broke out in Grenfell in 2013 the Tory council in Kensington buried the report while at the same time slashing public services, including fire safety services while raking up a surplus of £270million.

Time and again - the government and the council were warned, by fire officers, quantity surveyors and the residents and did nothing. While they were making cosmetic changes with dodgy material to Grenfell the government spent £357million refurbishing the home of one individual - an individual with a net worth of over £500million - Buckingham Palace - while the poor who live in tower blocks like Grenfell were left to suffer the consequences of the cuts and the failures of decades of Tory and Blairite neo-liberal cuts.

The difference is that a socialist council would have worked with the residents, asked them what needed to be done and then sorted the problem.

Another one who knows all the facts and where the blame lies .. hardly worth holding an enquiry comrade. According to Boris fires in London went down 50% under his mayorality, fire deaths down year on year and response times were faster than anywhere else in the country. True or False?

Apparently, according to the Sun/Tony Parsons the fire resulted from our obsession with climate change.

That is, I believe very misleading and sensationlist! It wasn't the fact the building was clad that it combusted so quickly, it was that it was clad in the wrong type of cladding. I didn't see the article but apparently it was reported in the Times that non combustible cladding for the whole building would have only cost an additional £5000!!!!

Ooh no Sir,You misunderstood Me,the thread was travelling in a direction where people were offering opinions on who may or may not be entitled to social housing,I offered My opinion which happens to be that Service personnel should immediately go to the very top of the list when they have finished serving our country, others disagree with Me.Just offering an opinion cocker, that's all.

Exactly. Conflating climate change with this fire is absurd at best.

Some people are very keen to blame this tragedy on austerity/the Tories before we know all the facts. It may turn out to be partly/mainly true but equally there may be other factors (individual negligence/incompetence) that turn out to be the main causes.

The opposition have a duty to hold the government to account and ask tough questions but pre judging the causes isn't responsible opposition. Kier Starmer was very good on this issue during the Marr show today refusing to endorse scoring political points (auto blame austerity/Tories) on such a serious issue.

I'm not blaming the tragedy on austerity at all but there's little doubt that it's hampering the response and no doubt that it has lead to the withdrawal of other (unrelated ) vital services in various areas including mental health and children's services.

Is there little doubt? The response has been widely viewed as inadequate but is that due to lack of resources or lack of contingency planning? Not saying you are wrong I genuinly have no idea.

There seems to be set procedures that swing into effect after a terrorist incident flooding resources into an area with clear command/responsibility structures. For some reason this doesn't seem to be the case for other disasters.

When you state "according to Boris" you know it can't be true! Fire deaths were up 20% in London in 15/16, the latest data available. From what I read, response times are generally well outside the target level in areas where fire stations have been closed.

It's pretty pointless having a booming economy if you don't make money....but clearly this country is nothing but a cash cow for outsiders.Record numbers of people working and millions of migrants contributing Billions!!!
This country is just like the NHS....mismanaged in epic scale as we are just a potless NATION that wastes and gives away shed loads of money.

Where's the money?
Foreign investors and shareholders and the EU clearly draining our resources in epic proportions.

From what I've read about KCTMO its a non profit making organisation with a healthy balance sheet, so was money really a problem? ...the cynic in me would say most things come down to money ..or was it just poor decision making ..certainly from there last set of accounts they have healthy reserves ..but this is just a simple google search...so is it too be trusted...we are all like the media just speculating and some pushing there own political views ..hopefully in time for those that have died ..been injured ..lost there homes and loved ones justice as we recognise it will be done.

Getting a bit tiresome now.

Anyway, really interested to see if the investigations do reveal that at any point someone said "Let's pop these panels on instead and save a few quid - what's the worst that could happen?"

There's lots of cost savings/corners being cut on projects, construction and otherwise. I suspect that, a bit like Hillsborough and other tragedies that there isn't a single reason or person why lives were lost, but a series of independent events combined with incompetence/poor decision making that collectively created the circumstances which eventually led to the event happening.

Agreed. And a better read than the money tree line.
