I am genuinely shocked they've let him go. Not because he deserved to be given a chance at redemption (because he doesn't) but because all signs were pointing to it going the other way.

However, one wonders if this would have been the outcome were it not for Adam Crafton of the Athletic grabbing hold of United's PR missteps and holding on to them like a dog with a bone.

"Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged. That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for."

They don't think he did it though, which also suggests this is a move they've had to do because of the enormous level of public backlash.
I think that's the nail on the head - they wanted to bring him back into the team, but they realise now that the reaction won't allow it. Rightly or wrongly, he can't be back in the Man Utd team. I'm sure he'll sign for a club in Turkey before the end of the window.

Correct. The signs were that it was going the other way, then it went public and the club realised they'd massively misread the room..............

In order to pursue a career elsewhere, I would think that he/they would have to make this evidence available publicly.

This is the first year in about 5 years where we don't seriously need to get a striker from somewhere. Thank god. I couldn't bear to hear the good name of my beloved club linked with someone who could commit such despicable acts.
I think on the list of things likely to happen that one would be lower than Crystal Palace actually finishing their new main stand.

Saudi Arabia I would have thought.
He's quite young for Saudi Arabia. The lad probably wants to build a career somewhere. He's barely played. I think he'll go to a proper league, but somewhere they are less "fussy" about this sort of thing.

Chelsea will probably
10 (?) days left of the window...I wonder when Chelsea will express an interest?
Fixed.

Here's the alleged rapist's statement on leaving:
" I thank the club for their support since I joined aged seven. There will always be a part of me which is United."

Well you're a complete c*nt, so yes, I wouldn't rush to disagree with the bot that wrote your statement.

I'm sure his forgiving partner will love it there, covered from head to foot.
