Mad how the music business words. Apparently The Jam didn't need to pay a penny to use the Taxman bassline on Start, and none of the Beatles sued...

Well, Harrison didn't like living in the material world.
More seriously, my understanding is that the writing credit is for the vocal melody and words, so the bass line isn't covered. In much the same way as loads have people have written songs based around the same riff or chord sequence.
I should mention, that I heard this in an interview of Jack Bruce, in which he was justifying not giving Ginger Baker a writing credit for White Room. So you can probably find other opinions.

Ed does seem to get constantly sued. Personally, I think there's enough difference for a judge to throw it out.

Isn't this the plot of a Richard Curtis film?
There was a happy ending, and it will be accused of being racist, so, yes.

C'mon ! He's the new Dylan. IMHO possesses not even a modicum of talent. Apparently there were three bags that were full.
Clearly, from the millions who buy his music and go to his live shows, you are in the minority.
Or just joining the fashionable trait of knocking successful artists.
Bet you hate Cold Play too.

With due respect, to both parties, the vast majority are satisfied with an easy listening pop ditty . . .which when peddled (paid radio play and advertising for example) creates a blanket of bland, and sells to the vacuous majority.

Equally, there's lots of very good music that people struggle to listen to.

Art!
