I’m just going to remind myself that our beloved El Capitán, Bruno, was only a bit part player for Valencia, averaging less than 20 appearances per season, and we’ve all seen how good he is. Valencia and Barcelona fans have incredibly high standards, Montoya was back up to Dani Alves, talk about big shoes to fill. We don’t need Montoya to be sensational, we need a fairly solid player who can cope with 38 games and isn’t as loose as the Greyhound. If he does join us I’m sure he’ll do just fine.

The difficulty with players like Montoya is that we know so little about their ability. In the past he's been linked with Liverpool whilst at Barca, coincidentally he lost his place in the team to none other than Dani Alves - nothing to be ashamed of there. At Inter Milan he struggled 'being abroad and the language barrier proved to be a problem'. At Betis he shone with a little faith from the manager and at Valencia he's struggled at times but overall been a mainstay in the team. Premier League is a whole new beast, I fancy looking at his history he would be a sound addition on the basis he plays and the manager and squad place their trust in him. Big ask to step ahead of Bruno though.

Fulham will not be signing Martin Montoya on deadline day after the club stalled on a deal and have now chosen to move on an alternate option.

Reports suggested that the Valencia man had rejected the side in favour of a move to Brighton and Hove Albion, but football.london understands that it was in fact Fulham who stalled on the move.


The club have been after a right back in this window and Montoya looked to be that man, but the Cottagers will instead move on to a different target after opting to pull the plug on the deal for the former Barcelona man and he now looks set to join Brighton and Hove Albion.
