It's pretty easy to find Ryanair flights on 4th october through Eindhoven for 75€. : or easy Jet - Ryanair combos for ~50€ on the same day. As an alt, there are also LGW -> MRS through Bordeaux (departure at 08:25 ; arrival at 16:35 ; yes close call) for 48€. - On 3rd evening you can get direct flight for 21€ (Ryanair STN -> MRS at 19:25) . Sure you'd might need an extra day off but I wouldn't describe it as a complete rip-off.

Metro and railways are two different kinds of beasts. We're glad our stadium is almost in the center of the city, and therefore on a urban metro service. Most of the clubs don't have this chance ... sad for you people.

For the person who asked if going back home with a 23:something plane was doable, I'd say. Yes it's doable. But better book a cab or an uber at a specific place on the metro line a tad away from the stadium and run for it. Or rush to St-Charles station and put your faith in it. Transfers from the station to the airport are usually smooth (the motorway starts right after the station and goes almost all the way to the airport) but it's still better to have an alternative plan just in case.

You also would not be the only Albion fan on that one if someone took this.

Ryanair are just as reliable/not reliable than any other airline in the country.

Checking the stats you are right , my mistake they are reliable however they are owned by a complete dick so that in itself should be a reason to not fly with them .

I really liked it , not too big , nice architecture or at least the part I was in did and importantly very walkable .

Not as busy as Brighton but most places aren’t however seemed lots to do , plenty of nice looking eateries too.

Bristol is known for having a hugely famous and successful actor from the golden age of Hollywood born there . Most people thought he was American but in fact he was English .

For early flights on friday evening, it all depends on how early really. You have shuttles from St Charles station to the airport (price : 10€) leaving everyday at 3:30 ; 4:10 then every twenty minutes. Metro starts around 5am; A taxi with a night fare would be around 70€ and an uber would be probably a bit less. The ride, by shuttle or taxi to the airport would be some 25 minutes, especially as they're no congestion this late in the night. If flight is too early. Process of checking-in in MRS is usually very fast, especially this early; So if your flight is at 6am the last shuttle to catch your plane would be 4:50 or the 4;30 if you want some margin. You could walk to St Charles but I'd say the area is very sketchy if not a bit dangerous at those hours. A savvy option would be taxi/uber to St Charles then the shuttle.

For hotels around the stadium, like I said in a previous post, it's usually a bad deal, esp. on night matches, where prices will be bumped. The area is completely ok but there's not much around it. It will be filled by our fans pretty early in the afternoon. I'm not sure if the bussing from the center for away fans is systematic or is put in place only for some sensible matches. All areas from metro Castellane up the center are probably better deals. Or something nice by the beach.

Debating whether the 23:10 flight back from Marseille to Manchester on the Thursday is at all possible.

French are an hour ahead so kick-off is 1830, earliest potentially leave the ground would be 20:30 but imagine away fans held back so could be 21:00 out the stadium, then it would be making it from the stadium to the airport and to go through check-in, as would imagine check-in closes at 22:00

Would be a hellish long day but there’s a 05:55 Manchester-Beziers flight which is about a 2 hour train journey away. Then fly back from MRS.

Will prob wait to see if I’ve got a chance of tickets before making my mind up on the ‘gamble’ home…..

You could go to Martigues easily by bus, but you will be stuck on your way back. If you don't mind an adventure you could still manage to creep in a car on your way back, or use a share car (BlablaCar). Whenever I went to Martigues and needed to go back to Marseille, I always found illegal "shared taxis", usually in North African style, willing to drop you to Marseille for 5€. But I wouldn't try the experience without at least some fluency in French. Btw, Martigues is a pretty nice small tawn, nicknamed "Venise Provençale". That's a huge overstatement, but it's still a nice off-track spot.

I’m used to watching 10th Division in England, so it can’t be that bad. I shall have a look at those options, thank you.

Anyone in Normandy or wanting to take a ferry from Portsmouth to Caen and then fly from Caen Carpiquet to Marseille can do so for £25 on 4th October. Another cheap way from Gatwick on match day is via Rome. Leave LGW 6:35 arrive Rome 10:10 then 11:30 Rome to Marseille arrive 13:00 with Ryanair. Around £63 all in.

Well ... it's very much about politics. Frankfort fans ... we knew that it could be bad. There is a - hopefully small but still real - part of their fans in ... errr ... hum ... cough ... very "alt-right" movidas. I have witnessed in La Plaine area the day before the match some of their fans willing to fight. Like walking in small groups, with baseball bats, and stuff like that. Of course didn't turn out well.

Now for the Spurs leg it was a bit special. The north "virage" was suspended. Meaning 15k of ours fans couldn't be in the stadium. And so they were in town. It was the last leg of the groups with pretty much anything possible. Hence, and on top of that, Spurs fans were being banned by Prefet (the head of the police of the Marseille metro area ; some 3M people) to be in the center of Marseille. I don't clearly remember the why's but there certainly were some why's... Nontheless 2000 Spurs fans gathered in Marseille. We tend to be pretty mediterranean down here. So if something happens we go with the flow. Keeping the "La Joliette" area safe is pretty easy (it's the new business district). If fans are there, some people will sell beer and food for sure . And yes a DJ would eventually come. By the way this match was a "high risk" match for UEFA board (if my memory serves me right 4 on a scale out of 5). As things stand now and with you guys, your game might eventually be classified as 3 but my money's on a 2 (because "England you know... you never know") or 1 (because "why the f*** really ?")

On the other hand, the Spurs team didn't have a proper night, with our local fans shooting fireworks at 1am ; 3am and 5am in front of their hotel. But no one got hurted, it wasn't the point

Now I wouldn't say we don't have some stupid and violent fans.... sadly. Though I’m an STH I’m only currently on 164 points so suspect Marseille might be the only one I have an outside chance of a ticket for, so I haven’t looked at transport yet with any degree of confidence. Does anyone have a realistic idea when tickets might go on sale? I need to know if I can get one before sorting everything else

I would say you've got a very decent chance as surely will go to at least all STH. Many are put off and that's a big away end!

I think I got incredibly unlucky. This summer has been a lot better than last. I think the cancellation rate is only 1% on average. Whereas last summer some of the bigger airline like KLM and BA were 2/3%

Bristol to marseille is £18 the Wednesday morning ! Suprised more of these haven't been taken

that's like doing an awayday to get to the start of your trip.....
