If there are any tickets left by Tuesday at 9am and I do get one I'll also be going alone.

My biggest stumbling block is accommodation. I'd go for at least 3 nights but so far decent Airbnb rooms aren't going for less than around £200 (for 3 or 4 nights) in the La Joliette area or nearby.

Hotel pre-booking (that I can cancel) suggestions would be welcome - Ryanair costs are still pretty decent for now.

Based on today's sales it may well not. My reasoning being that those with the highest points who travel a lot to watch the Albion should reasonably have been expected to have a high percentage take up having also taken up the pre registration. So far this has proved to be far from the case with still over 1680 available.
I would expect the take up to be about the same or lower as we move down the bands. I wonder what the club thinks about the take up of tickets but maybe their own advice and warnings have put people off.
It's also a fair assumption that people lower down the brackets will still need to organise travel which they couldn't commit too and is now pretty expensive.

You have to watch the match through a f***ing net? I thought the police escorts and fines were draconian enough, what's wrong with these Marseille people?
It's to give you an idea of the view the Marseille 'keeper will have for most of the evening, every time we smash one in!*

*hopefully.

On the ticket front, looks like I might scrape in. Undecided at the moment about the appeal of coughing up more than my Amex season ticket to get shunted about and caged in.

That’s where I am too. I’ve no problem with the police doing what they need to do to control large hostile crowds as long as I’m not presumed to be aggressive in advance. I hate being treated like an animal. I’m hoping to get a ticket for AEK Athens and have already booked travel and accommodation. That will do me. I know things can be lively there too but probably not as bad as Marseille.

Looking at our travel times, we get into Marseille by train from Montpellier about 2.30. It's all a bit tight to check in, collect tickets and get to the ground for kick off. Had anyone asked if tickets can be collected in the UK?
I’m sure you will be fine. We are due to arrive by train at 2pm and are thinking we will be ok, so long as there are no delays…!

TRAVEL INFORMATION:

I sincerely hope there's a whole world of BHAFC arrangements going on behind the scenes to ensure the safety of Category 1 ticket holders over and above those suggested by the Travel Information. Reading that, they're being recommended to travel to and from the game by Metro, and to just rock up to a turnstile in the home section. If those arrangements aren't raising a whole thicket of red flags with the club, then they certainly should be IMHO

These will be the same arrangements made for every one of the numerous clubs who visit Marseilles for European fixtures, season after season.

Category 1 holders will be predominantly, if not exclusively, sponsors, club partners and family and, being blunt, won’t be lairy, beered-up groups of young men singing loudly and drawing attention to themselves.

They’ll be fine.

They'll still be mainly on the Metro tho, and still rocking up to a turnstile in the home section. To me - and hopefully to the club - that's a huge risk. And as we saw at that West Ham away Euro game last season, their Category 1 holders safety ended up being purely in the hands of one public-spirited middle-aged beefy skinhead. And what a top man he was! Hopefully the Albion will be taking no such chances with the safety of a category of their travelling support

Category 1 tickets are issued to all away clubs in all European fixtures - so hundreds of games a season.

The West Ham incident is the only one I'm aware of, and in the various bits of research I've done ahead of this Marseille game, I can find no mention of any trouble for those Category 1 ticket holders.

That's not so say it won't happen, of course, but you're writing as if this is the first time something like this will happen, as opposed to it being routine.

And this is where some of the tickets would be that usually pop up for normal sale during the week before the game. So have to travel incognito on the Metro and then be easily identified in the ground.

It's the first time something like this has happened to the Albion. And it's Marseille. Would hate for anybody to just innocently stumble into a terrifying shitstorm based on the travel advice. I'm sure you want exactly the same. And, heigh-ho the more we discuss it on here in advance, the more likely it is to catch the eye of the club so they can take steps to mitigate the risk - always assuming that they're not already doing so behind the scenes

It's a tough one. Would love to go and probably would have done when I was younger. These days I can't be bothered with the hassle. One major aspect of wanting to go to see the games is to enjoy being abroad. If we can't mix with the locals, doesn't seem worth it. I agree about Athens. I think it'll be better there.

Will it? AEK have a terrible hooligan issue

Not sure they target normal fans like Marseille do though. And it’s a much larger city with 2 other huge clubs. I’d imagine keeping a low profile and away from certain area will be easier.
Very likely we might get bussed in and out again though
